my interiror

well its coming together. i am disapointed with the quality of NRG since i got a CF/leather shift *** that had yellowing and what looked like cracks inside the resin through out the piece. nrg also forgot to include a horn button with my wheel.. 2 fails in one week from different stores (store not at fault)

i also picked up some REDLINE GOODS interior boots. they are very nice.

i changed the color of my dash by using vinyl dye from maroon to black, i am still working on putting the whole interior together, but i think the red stitching goes great with the black with red pin stripe seats

Did you dye your door panels as well? I might have to look into doing this.

its paint in a can. duplicolor makes vinyl and fabric paint that works well, i prepped the surface by using simple green and a dish sponge scrubber side. went over the whole entire dash.

the upper part of the dash, where the vents are, is a metal plate, it can be removed and painted separately. you then mask using 3m brand plastic drop cloth with tape attached. it comes in a plastic container/roll. i ran masking along this metal plate and tapped it to the windshield. i then masked around the door jams and around the gauge cluster and steering columb, removed the wheel of corse. and all the plastic panels.

i sprayed it down with glass cleaner to prep the surface further removing it from waxes and oils. i then used duplicolor adhesion promoter , works for plastics , its like a clear primer.

i first painted the inner areas of the glove box. and shut it then started on the whole dash. i did it in about 5-7 coats. you dont try to cover the whole dash in one application , but several. not waiting more then 4 min inbetween coats.

i used the "Flat black" which turned out to be a semi-gloss black. very nice stock look to it.

it takes a steady hand and alot of patients for this to turn out good. plenty of prep for the surface and many light feather coats.
i also did the door panels. the carpet pieces that go around the strut tower. the strut tower speaker covers, the a pillar runners, the shifter surround, and the tano cover i all painted black too....

it works well with carpet you just need alot to get it at every angle of the strands. i dont recommend it for lower carpet as that is a high traffic area and the paint my rub off.

pictures bellow are right after i painted. i do still need to wire tuck so dont give me crap!
there are no flaws no dry spots its a solid uniform coat over whole dash. just spray 8 inches away from surface and do many light coats with in 4 min of the last

the carbon fiber style vinyl is great. even if you dont have carbon fiber. its got a nice pattern to it. doesnt look to much like carbon fiber, like its trying to be fake. simply just over under stitching that matches carbon fiber. GREAT stuff.

funny you guys say that. i bet it it was full leather it would be called cheep. i got it cuz it is an almost perfect match against my paint. and the price was right.

the grip on it is AMAZING. it perfectly molds to your hand and thumb and palm. over all amazing feel when driving. between the new wheel and new bushings i can feel the road sooooooooooo much better.

the leather work on the wheel is great. its really thick leather and really soft and smooth. but i dont have to convince you guys cuz you guys already hate it

nrg is cheep, but i dont have 200+ to spend on something that is impressive. so i got the next best thing that is actually name brand.

i am all about building up my rx7 on a budget. i shop smart and so far its been quite rewarding. thats how i am and thats what my style is. affordable and any one can do what i did with time and hard work and good deals

i dont want to spend that much on a wheel. and i like what i like. its my car and it matches my paint.

if i spent 200-300+ on a stupid f^kin steering wheel... i wouldnt be able to eat for a month or 2 . i dont make the money every one else is. u really want me to spend my government money (ssi) on car parts? or you rather me save my own hard earned pay checks for 100 bux here and there and complete alot more on the interior then just prolong the restoration. 300 bux can get me alot of crap for my car rather then ONE item that really doesnt matter to me.

it took me 2 months to save up for the redline goods boots and the shifter and the wheel. 2 months to save up for the items. i have to wait another 3 weeks till i can afford material to re-upholster the door panel inlays myself. and thats cheep ... think about that... i barly get by, yet i am able to save and still keep this car going.

doing it right, doing it cheep. 2 different things. im doing some things right, while saving money on other things. im not cheeping out i just dont see the reason to blow cash.

idk why people care about that stuff. i love my steering wheel!!!!!!

the wheel is different, not terrible but just not for everyone- but that does not matter as long as you like it. It does look like it has a great feel to it.

Did you dye the door panels? I think the dye job will be something you chase a little, might have to do touchups every few weeks but it is still 100000x's better then the red/brown combo

it would only need touch ups in high traffic area. my runners on the door sill. the plastic vinyl pieces that say mazda, my shoes rub over them all the time. and it lasted a few months before i needed to redo them. havent redone them yet. its only cuz the vinyl is soft and scratches easy since its so old and brittle

i have done many pieces painted and only if i placed tape down, did i have an area lift up. over near the lil vent that points towards the window. was using 3m tape and got some on the paint and it lifted up. other then that i have had no issue at all.

the door handle on the interior has so much oil absorbed into it that the paint wont stick. or will fish eye. i'm going to order new or find black.

if you prep the surface right and keep adhesive and shoes away from the parts. the paint will last a long time

i orderd the 86-88 version not the 89-92 version. the style it is is a tie up style so its ment to be up a bit on the shifter. the other style is the kind that you invert and zip tie and fold down. i am still not sure if i would like the other style better. this style is growing on me...

zip tied and turned down

tie up style
