Mustang GT Wheels... Poll how did you mount them?

Picking up a set of 01 GT Wheels and I've read through the 4 page GT Wheels on FC Thread. Seems to be many opinions on the correct way to mount them... So Poll Time.

Great so all i would need it is some new lugnuts, or would it still be better to get new studs. Also are those normal 2000 Cobra R wheels (the 18x9) or some aftermarkets. And do you think some 18x10 FR500s will fit in the rear of the FC

I had FR's on mine once to test fit, 18x10.5. Fit fine. Well the fenders needed to be rolled..

As for my 2000R's they were 18x9 with a 26mm offset.

Well the good news it i got a friend to trade two sets of 18x9F/10R FR500s for two sets of 17x9F/10.5R. He had some extra sets from his Cobra that he sold and since he just got a GT500 he wanted to trade. I have 4 sets for my S197 Mustang so they are the +30 and +40mm offset 18X9F/10R and i use them for road racing but i think the +24 and +28mm will be better for the FC since it is a smaller wheel and i might not have to roll the fender.

Had mustang rims on my FC for about 6 months, 99' GT rims. Fit on perfect with the stock studs. Never lost any lug nuts or a wheel at any track days.

Just picked up my set of 01 GT Wheels today! Ordered some ET style gorilla lug nuts from summit. The P/O had some gay red ones on there so i needed new and figured the ET style wouldnt hurt. $48 shipped for 20 and the key...

Question: What size tires should i run? Im at stock high but coilovers are next.... Im thinking 225/45/17 front and 235/45/17 rear

they will fit, my mustang runs 255/45/18 but my old GT had 255/45/17. If i do plan to use these wheels i will just use some 315/35/17 for the rears and maybe a 255/40/17 for the front.

Man, that is a lot of tire for a NA (or even a Turbo, for that matter).
The Cobra R wheels I got had 275's on the rear and 225's on the front...tires were crap but I ran them for a few weeks to see how I liked the staggered sizing.

Didn't.
At all.

Caused a ton of understeer and acceleration seemed lazier.

Now running 235's on all four corners and it's much better (plus, I can rotate tires...yeah, like I ever do that).

Unless you're just in it for the look or are actually breaking traction, I think a smaller tire will actually work better, especially if the car is street driven.

Sorry, i am just remembering when i had my old mustang, it was an awesome look but i guess that look is meant more for the muscle car scene. If i do go with these FR500s i might just sell the 4 17x10.5s and just use the 17x9s all around with a good 245s all around.

And how did you get 225s on there, my 18x8.5 could barley hold the 235 tires that were on there from the factory and you had 225s on an 18x9

My wheels are 17 x 8.
Apparently only available for one year or something.

just mount them... might need some hub centric rings for the wheels, but you can get that at any autozone

did you have

95 Cobra R

2000 Cobra R

I know the 95 cobra R came in 17x8 at one time but the real 2000 Cobra R is only available as 18x9 unless aftermarket made

Almost certainly aftermarket as I don't think the OEMs ever came in a +20 offset like mine.

yup 95 cobra R and they did come in +20 offset and were of course on the 95 Cobra R but most use them on the 86-04 mustang thats why they came in a 17x8 but i think they are 17x8.5.They are nice wheels. I thought you had the 2000 Cobra R wheels. If i had 4 lugs i would have gone with a 93 cobra R wheel

225/50/16 should be the rear tire size for your FC if you're looking for larger rear tires.

I didn't use extended nuts when I mounted mine, I used the ET style and the stock style (stock style because the vender sold me a few 1.25s instead of 1.50s. Never put any miles on them as I'm switching to FN01R-C's.

ARP makes extended lugs. Search this forum for it.

Thats what i have on there now for a wider rear 16 but im in a bind and cant find any locally that are used and cant quite afford new ones. I can get the rims with bad tires for $100 and then pick up nearly any size 17 inch tire used until i can get a new set in spring.
