Manual windows are awesome. I got them, and i know they ain't falling apart anytime soon.
i'll be honest, if i drove it daily it would probably become a nuance.

and it's awesome to be able to roll your windows up and down without the key in the ignition

It doesn't take much work to make it do that without the key in the ignition - might even take less work than swapping in a manual window set (relays included). Aaroncake's done the same

Hate to post on a 1 year+ old forum just to share my opinion but...

Manual windows for the win. They're cheaper, lighter, and less complicated. It was ridiculous for mazda to make them standard on my '88 convertible.

I can understand power windows in a sedan with 4 windows that are not easily accessible to the driver, but in a two seater sports car, it's something I can easily do with out.

Both my switches are bad, and one window needs great assistance to move. For new switches it would cost a total of 270 dollars. (180 for driver side, 90 for passenger side).

So many lazy fools on this forum.

If your power windows dont work, then fix them, wire in relays and be on your way. Im willing to bet the same people advocating the swap to manual windows are also driving around (if their car even runs) with a bunch of other half-assed fixes. If it were a race car where every ounce mattered it might be a different story, but these are street cars.

How is converting to manual windows lazy?

Power windows are pointless in a car like the FC, I'm so glad I found this thread so at least I know what I need and what it takes to convert the drivers side, which doesnt work electrically or mechanically. I'll leave the passenger side alone since all it needs is a switch, and once I get that I'll probably get a relay in to protect it from going out again.

I'll probably save almost 5 pounds, and race car or not, I can appreciate that alot more than I can appreciate the "convenience" of power windows.

why do you like your favorite color? why would you want to put a simpler system in your car and have that much more piece of mind? I purposely got a base sport model s4 because no pwr anything and no sunroof. my abs can't screw up, don't have it. my power steering can't screw up, don't have it. my windows won't have too many problems, my sunroof won't malfunction because I don't have them nor do I want any of it. at all. ever.

drifting manual steering, ya.

going to have to rewire the passenger side or else keep the switch on the drivers side to keep the pass window working. You need the drivers switch operating to work the passenger side.

yes it really does come down to preferences. just bothers me that mazda made things like power windows standard in a two seater car (rx7 convertible). Not that mazda is only car company to blame.

You must have missed my post as to why I would like manual windows. It has nothing to do with being half ***. I prefer manual windows because when the electronics fail, it can make your day suck. I've had bad experiences with windows and sunroofs in the past.

Anyways, this was a "just wondering" thread. 1 year later and I'm coming somewhat close to having the engine done. I'll worry about the body after.

Me too, then I'm going to do a solid rubber tire conversion cuz its so much trouble to worry about having to keep them full of air.

I keep my FC in the garage on jackstands because my GXL has power windows, an engine, AND radial tires! It's a ticking time bomb.

Dam look at all these pussies defending their precious power windows with sarcasm.

Manual windows are lighter, simpler, and cheaper. I can roll up my own window, it's pretty dam easy, and it's usually quicker than power windows. You don't look like a scrub when you have manual windows, but it's pretty easy to look like a douchebag when you have power windows.

There's no need to criticize people's decision to convert to manual. Just try to help them out.

I like them both. They each have their own advantages.
Like Tuscani said you can't roll the windows down without a battery if you are working on the car.
But then again you do not have to worry about those stupid switches getting all crudded up and the window not working at all if you have crank windows.
Just like going 20b it's a choice!
