something you could accomplish with a set of coilovers. Although, low isnt always best for good handling. Lowering a car by a significant amount isnt how it was designed to work. Shocks will bottom out, not have much stroke in its compression, and possibly be riding on the bumpstops majority of the time.
Probably get more response in the non-technical and pictures section.

If I was at home I'd have a pic...
But it depends. If you want to do it right, the recommended "low" set up is tokico struts with tein springs. Plan on spending a LOT of money. Or run lower profile tires. Or smaller wheels. If you have never done suspension work before, it's a day-long job.
If you want to do it wrong and for free, just heat up the springs. (OFF the car in a spring compressor)

The problem for going low for looks is the drivability. Forget about what will get damaged or worn quickly. That's not the biggest problem with being lowered. In my opinion, most headaches come from having to worry about driveways, potholes, speedbumps, etc etc on a daily basis.
I run tien s-tech springs on stock struts. With a stock body, the stance looks good. You don't have to worry about speedbumps and driveways, and it's good for daily driving. Then, I put on a bodykit. Now, because of the bodykit, I only drive my car around places that I'm familiar with because I don't want to go through the hassle of driving over speedbumps in angles, run into huge dips, and all that other crap.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, even on daily driven street car, you don't want to go too low. It's a PITA. I'd much rather drop the car and put on bigger wheels to close the wheel gap rather than dropping the car to the floor.
It isn't hard to do by yourself at all. If you can install an intake, exhaust, and brakes by yourself, then you'll have no problems taking apart the suspension. As a matter of fact, lowering the car was the second thing I did to it after the intake.

i have an 87 na sport, Tein S tech front and rear springs about 1" drop around all 4, koyo adjustable in the rear and stock TII in the front, all in all its a good ride, about 20% stiffer than stock, but I had a hard sport stock setup anyway so it may not even be 20%, and the newer model 7's had stiffer suspension anyway so I am probably about stock still.. at any rate i don't have much clearance with the areos, you can see the 2X4 under the front (my STOP STUPID boards so i don't rip the front lip on the curb) i have about 2" clearance above the 2X4 so about 4 to 5 in clearance, which isn't a prob for the most part, there are a few speed bumps i have scraped but i learned what to hit sideways, i like the look and feel of it, I wouldn't want to go much lower though, its allready hard to get in and out of the damn thing...
also that pic of the lowered TII up there looks like it has some custom fenders, that curve doesn't look natural to me

you = no pics . you = FAIL
and besides i live in san diego county, they don't belive in lowered cars, they purposly ( i swear it ) put in high speed bumps and driveways that cause issues
