Getting out of the rx7 game for a little while
Well, I currently own two fc's; a 86 gxl? and a 90 gxl. I'm moving because I got a job at a factory across the state and neither of my rx7s "run". Bad coolant seals in both.
I'm selling my 86 and then turning my 90 into a project car, but it will be a long drawn out project. I was curious if buying a Honda to drive back and forth to work in would be considered "cheating" on my 7's?

If you're looking for gas milage sure why not, you will still have one 7 left. I drive my SpecV or my Speed6 while my 7's are down I don't think I'm cheating.

Driving a Honda would not be cheating, your putting it in its rightful place as a DD. Now if you do work to it and make it faster then your 7 then yes that be considered "cheating" on the 7.

I don't see a problem there. Way better gas mileage, cheaper to maintain, more reliable, no need to rush and cut corners on the FC, etc, etc. You might want to check out the status of Honda theft in your area though, they get stolen left and right around here.

Thanks guys, I was sort of afraid I'd get flamed.
Now on a side note, whats the easiest way to learn about a piston engine?
I'm a week over 20 years old and all I've ever owned are rotaries (other than two weeks I owned a miata).
So.... I have no knowledge of piston engines.
Do they have rotors?
Jking, I know how they work but I mean... is working on them any different?

why a honda... i would go with a toyota camry, or any other grandma car...its usually the best way to go since most grannys dont drive that often. piston engines just have more parts, mechanicly speaking they are a hassle to fix internally, but piston engines have the same exterior aspects as a rotary (except for the cam chain, or belt) i wouldnt worry though they are more reliable at times than rotaries (lately not by much). hell iof you maintained a rotary you can maintain a piston engine no sweat.

I'm probably going to try to pick up a running rx7 but I have discovered that civics are impossible to find, unmolested, so I probably will go with a camry or etc.

Funny story time?
I went out to talk to my red fc and promise that I'd come back for it soon.
I decided to jump in and pretend drive it one last time.
.... 1st, 2nd, no third, no fourth, no fifth, no reverse.
"F--k."
So my transmission did this one other time, its not hard to fix or anything.
I just feel like my seven was saying, "DON'T LEAVE ME HERE!!! The rednecks will play with me and put a 350 in me."
Its going to be sitting at my cousin's until I can get it towed and they NON-STOP told me to put a 350/other chevy engine in it.
One more reason I love sevens, so much personality. lulz.

That's kind of my thinking with having a minivan. It's so different from an RX-7; it serves a totally different purpose. I can't put a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood in my RX-7, and the van is much more comfortable for transporting my wife and my two 60 pound dogs. Plus the van is newer and American so I can get parts at pretty much any auto parts store which makes it a more convenient daily driver.

My dd is a 1986 E30 325. Great little car, manual transmission, working AC, handles great, RWD, gets 30 MPG, and it has some soul and class--unlike a Honda Civic.
I bought it and immediately changed out the timing belt and chanrged the AC, new plugs and wires. I also added a modern deck and speakers. Now, all I do is add a quart of oil between oil changes and run the hell out of it. I'm almost at 190k miles.
The car cost me $1,600. Nuff said.
