The first thing I noticed about my turbo II FC... The weight of the hood.

Ok.
Here is the thing. The standard FC hood is flipping heavy. I don't care who you are that thing is massive.
So, you say, quit complaining and put a carbon one on it. I would... but the are all flipping ugly. Infact I like the look of the standard hood.
So I put this question to you, does any company have enough taste to realize Mazda had the design of the looks bang on, but the weight is ridiculous and thereby make a CF hood in the original design???
If anyone know of a hood like this let me know. Or and other simple CF hood that I could put on my FC. The lest vents etc the better....
Thanks for your help!!!
Peace!

Aluminum Hoods weigh about 5 pounds heavier than the CF one and are OEM thus look exactly the same as your steel hood now...
There also happen to be a bunch of CF Stock Looking TII hoods around the market, they aren't cheap however...
Scroll down, I don't know if they do international shipping.
But yeah dude Aluminum hood go find one, there's bound to be one on an S5 Somewhere...

Aluminum hood FTW. I have an aluminum hood and a steel hood, and the difference in weight is pretty astounding. I think the steel hood weighs over 50 lb and the aluminum one is somewhere around 30 lb. I can open the aluminum one with a couple of fingers, but the steel is a 2-hander.
if they were to fail... I can just imagine the carnage... It would destroy the whole car with that kinda weight behind it...

TII aluminum hood. Like the other guys mentioned try to find an aluminum hood, you probably have a steel heavy one. Once you check out an aluminum hood, you will be convinced =) , hell you could probably cut out the skeleton of the aluminum hood but i dunno. Ive cut the skeleton out of a steel hood *my old s13* and it was great weight savings comparable to a composite hood.
I just had my aluminum hood off today to fix some dents and start painting it and i was suprised how light it is. I moved it all by myself and even got it on and off on my own. My vert is the same way.
bad part of alumnium hood- the small indents from the glue, people think these are dents but they are the glue pulling it down.
If you have a steel TII hood it is a aftermarket hood. They used to sell aftermarket steel TII hoods, they no longer do.
I will take the look of a steel hood anyday over a aluminum hood, alum. hoods just dont hold thier shape as well- almost too thin and light.
Most dont notice, but if your like me and your hood looks like this you notice EVERYTHING

take a good sharp scraper, or a good razor knife, heat it really well- look under the hood for the glue and slide the blade between the glue and the hood- watch your dent vanish
I don't think all the TII hoods were aluminum from the factory. Some 87 models may have come with steel ones. Do you really think all the low end FC's in Japan came with aluminum hoods? you couldn't get a nonturbo in Japan
what was thier thinking and selection process in regards to which cars got steel and which got alum?
I remember back in 1993 needing to replace my hood and a steel hood was offered by my aftermarket parts supplier, not the scoop but just the hood.
Now they dont offer it anymore.
I cant see how mazda selected which cars got a steel TII hood and which ones got alum?
When you bought a SE you know you got a stripped version, but when you bought a TII or a convertible there were virtually no options, a choice of hood was definitely not one of them.

Jamehij: un like you the weight of my hood was the last thing I found out about my car I drove it for a year and one day my friend was like dude you hood is freaking light!
Aluminum is sick but I wouldn't mind something lighter or a different style for when I go v-mount one day.

glass hoods are not THAT much lighter then aluminum.
If you damage your hood then its one thing to go to a glass hood, but the weight savings of glass over alum. is minimal
If you have a skin of a hood, like a real light weight pinned not hinged or latched hood its one thing, but that hood will not hold its shape and keep a true nice finish like a alum or steel hood.
