im with metal though on alot of points.....
being a detailer for a toyota dealership and having to deal with the most NITPICKIEST asian customers, a good washing and claying, buff and polish will fix so many things. hell, we had an old 88 yota 4x4 come in and we had nothing better to do, so 3 of us attacked the thing and detailed it. it came in looking like a typical yota 4x4, it left looking new.
clayed it, decided to wetsand the whole thing using progressive sandpaper steps starting at 1000 all the way to 2000. after that, a 3 stage cut polish and buff, the thing looked like it could be on the showroom floor.
peace

She's been painted for nearly two months and spent a few weeks outside. Washed it on saturday and it looked great. Besides I paid 500 for her I justify a 3000 dollar paint job.

Back from the dead! Glad other people have tried their own version of this.
I will say one thing: if you plan on doing this, don't skimp on the quality of the paint! It didn't take long for the finish to dull. As they say: I was young, dumb and full of ... you get the idea.
In hindsight I would have used better paint and more of it. I used the absolute cheapest **** at the store. I put in 110% effort on prep and cheaped out on the paint. Dumb.
My father still drives the black FC and it has really taken on a "rat rod" look in the years he has owned it. Engine still strong and fun to drive, though!
