I'm going to make a request to the moderators to change the title of this thread so you ******* trolls will gtfo. Half the people in here that are bitching and moaning about aggressive fitment and stretched tires just can't get enough of their own opinions and the funny thing is most of there cars look like **** stance wise imo.

The simple fact is that stretched tires, crazy camber & sitting on the ground is not correct / proper stance. Maybe the thread title might be a little off, but the fact that the idea of what is correct is not an opinion. The guys who like this more aggressive stance need to understand that thier ways in not proper but a simple style / fad. I'm not going to bash anyones car even though mine was just because everyone has different ideas in what looks good. Honestly I see people here saying great car or whatever to guys who can't align thier body panels correctly, fenders all beat up & saying another car is ugly because they don't fit your style.

I clearly made a mistake on the title of this thread that is very clear. I had no idea how much disgust it would bring from the sunken wheel crew. I'm starting to see that this is a more widely popular thing on the west coast. The japanese influence is way stronger on this side of the country clearly when it comes to style and fitment. I originally used proper in my thread title as in meaning how these cars are styled in japan there native ground. When the thread title changes please keep your sunken wheel, 4x4 height, mustang fitment, weekend racer fitment to the other picture threads as they have no place in this one.

eww a 350z with sportmaxx wheels...

i still say these two have the proper stance

not too high, not too low (but hyperteks car is kinda pushin it.)
also the stretch tire is not for looks but for fitment.

edit: also why are people hating on stretched tires on a proper stance thread.

hypers is perfect imo. Grips car looks way better since he lowered it more but the front is still too sunken in and the rear just has too much poke. Just looks like a mustang to me fitment wise. If he spaced the front out and added wide fenders to the rear and lowered the car a tad more with sideskirts and rear valance it would be perfect. I'm not a fan of the wheels either, they just look like they belong on a vw golf not an rx7. But thats what I would do with his car but who cares its his ride and his style and it looks really good the way it is.

Theres a few reasons why drifters rock stretched tires on big wheels, Il explain a bit that I know from my own drifting experience.
WHen you initiate a drift theres alot of g force load on your suspension, and to your wheels to your tires. If you were to drift with a 50 sidewall tire say a 215/50/17 on a 17x8, you will feel a sluggish response. Why? Because the tires sidewall are flexing, and absorbing the response because its too tall, thus drivers steering input is robbed away. you wont be able to have control, and you will have a hard time transfering.

When you rock a 215/40/17 on a 17x9 in front[for example], itl stretch and there will be less sidewall defelection upon initiation and drift. With less sidewall flex, the drifter will have more control over his car, so this way he can drift closer to the wall and execute his bumper removal.
Also there will be more clearance between the tire and fender, and inner wheel well, which mean the car can achieve more full lock[steering angle], and less rubbing=more speed, and also the car can be lowered even more.
The lower the car, the lower the center gravity of the drift car. If you dont understand then just think this, lower=better.

The negative camber in front is because at full lock, if your front wheels were 0 camber like how the factory designed, it would turn into positive camber which will result in understeer. HAve you ever noticed those guys testing their cars on the skid pad cornering hard, you can see the front wheels postive camber?

0 camber= full contact patch rigght?WHich also = max grip. So at full lock you want 0 camber, which means you have to preset your front wheels at around -3 to-4 degrees of camber depending on how your car is setup.

Another reason for stretched tires in the rear, is so low hp drifters can spin their wheels easier.
My rx7 vert has 117whp on the dyno, but it doesnt stop me from spinning 17x10 fn01s in the rear. How do I do it? rock a 215/45/17 stretch on the 17x10 and bump up the psi to 50. Stretch allows the car's engine to spin the wheels easier. Think of it this way, stretching a tire=less rotating mass.

I also heard that stretch tires began in Japan because low budget drifters couldnt afford expensive tires, so they would mount smaller cheap tires..

But you see, this is why this is "Proper stance" for drifting

well I hope this info helps a bit.

Are you refering to me about 4x4 height & sunken wheels? Firts off if you didn't already noticed the is a Japanese influence thread already so this thread would be trash if it were only dedicated to that. Second you say that it's more popular on the west, so that doesn't make it proper. Third who are you to tell anyone where to post thier pics? Hypers, Grips, Titaniums & your car actually look good, IMO each one has it's own appeal.

Or how about this

But all of you keep posting your cars with stretched *** tires on crazy offset rims.

THIS! Not proper

ALSO THIS! Improper.

Starting to catch the drift?

Just for clarification on a different car. Well use the 240SX for example as its another victim of wheel fitment ****'s.

Proper:

What the f*&K happened here.

I'm all for stretched tires and wide rims as much as the next guy, but this is a proper stance thread. Not wheel fitment thread.

is a 18x10 -22 rim with a 225-235 tire a nice fitment? Possibly. Is it proper stance? No.

Keep your drift cars in the drift thread. They made it for a reason.

I was never referring to your car at all. I actually like your car, an ultra agressive widebody aint for me but I aprreciate and respect all the time that went into your car. I'm trying to get the title changed to Drift Stance so in that case quite a few cars here won't belong thats why I mentioned where people post pics of there car.

That black fc at the gas station is sadly way off. Sunken in wheels with too much height equals fail. You saying that it is proper is an opinion just as i'm saying its not is my opinion. I think the fc looks horrible with that fitment. I personally find the green and yellow fc sick as ****.

Ziptied, battle scarred, wheel fitment battle drift cars... Is like Rambo in vietnam scarred and stitched up like baddass. To me that is stance, like a fighter or a bulls stance.

Battlescars? WTF its Drifting, not Gladiators?

The cars are supposed to look good in drifting, not like a pile that's sliding out of control...

Just eyeballing it, I can tell you all 4 tires aren't anywhere near over negative camber. The rear MIGHT be close to 2 degrees.

Ill make a reference the the proper standing stance. It makes you ready to move in any direction easily. Take your car spec'd for drift with the 3.5-4 degrees of camber in the front and 1-1.5 in the rear with 215's-235's on the 10 inch rear and compare it to a car with ***PROPER*** stance running ~1.5 in the front and ~1 in the rear with 255-275's on a 9" rim and do 0-60-0 tests and lateral G skidpad tests.

I think we both know the answer.

Like I said. Justin's car is well set up for what it does. But its not proper stance. Sure its built well for driving sideways. But do you walk sideways? No. You walk straight. Why? Because its proper.

posting a drift missile beat to **** s13 isnt a good example man..

Better post some sexy stuff like this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhndkjCir6k
and a gorgeous S2k
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwoPsYph9GE

Seeing static pictures of cars with flush fitment doesnt do any justice, you got to go see them rolling around to better appreciate it.

Agreed. I never said that it looks bad. It's just not "proper" which is the point I'm trying to make here.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8E7J93DnIxM&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8E7J93DnIxM&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

That is proper.

A car doesn't need the tire touching the fenders or be slammed on the ground to look good. Does it help some cars look good? Yes. Is it completely necessary for every car? No.

Function over form = proper.

Your doing a lot of talking, lets see pics of your car. The drift stance is for the purpose of function in drifting as layed out above. My question is why do you continue to voice your opinion on the matter? No one ******* cares that you don't like the stance. I'm probably wasting my time Troll on.............

I thnk its funny how people are trying to challenge to a race around the track or some G-force garbage, Just because I like my car super low and "proper" fitted doesn't mean that when I take it to do a NASA or SCCA event that I rock my big wheels with stretched tires...just doesn't make sense. Of course I would swap out for some different wheels and sticky tires.
Stretch+Low+style= 'Proper'
I agree that FD was blah...carry on.
