Farewell rx7club, Hello rx8club
Yesterday I sold my nonturbo FC of nearly 10 years to a young guy in Mattoon, IL who I'm sure will enjoy it. It has been a great car, and I had lots of fun working on it, learning about it, and driving it. Thank you, rx7club for lots of great information and inspiration over the years.
I have moved on to a used RX-8 with 20k miles on a new engine and some nice modifications. It sings the nonturbo rotary song beautifully, and my daughter's car seat fits nicely in the back seat. I suppose I'm having my cake and eating it too!
I switched my username to fc2se on rx8club in case anyone is interested. I'll leave my rx7club vBGarage in place in memory of the years of enjoyment of the FC.

The 8's handling is amazing. It is the only car I've driven (that is in my price range anyway) that handles as good or better than my FC. My impression is that the 8 handles better overall. The 8 I bought has the Mazdaspeed suspension and anti-sway bars, and it has virtually no body lean compared to a stock 8 - but it is not a harsh ride. My FC was definitely on the harsh side but not horribly stiff (Racing Beat springs the #1 culprit).
Not to put down the nonturbo FC, but it would take a lot of modifications to get one to solidly compete with a stock 8. But both cars are great fun, regardless!

Congrats!
You're a better man than me, if I had a kid they would sit in the storage bin :lmao:
Glad to see you stayed in the rotary family though, I joined rx8club a while back, just to get a shift ****.

lmao at the kid in the storage bin comment!
Yeah, it was sad to see the FC go after so many good years. I always wanted to repaint it and drive it cross-country to Seven Stock.
As for the ugly comment, I don't think the FC ever won any beauty contests in stock trim. I do think the 8 looks better in person than in most pictures - just something about the proportions and sculpted body that doesn't always come across in photos.

rx8 is a nice car i bought one for the wife she loves it good weekend car. I like them just to many buttons i swear there are buttons everywhere on that thing lol. it is nice to drive tho handles well and its nice and quiet lol.
Nah I'm kidding. Back in the day the FC was a good looking car. I still think it is, but the styles are obviously much different now.
I like the way the series 2 RX-8 looks, except that darn giant black plastic piece on the top of the grill. Mazda puts that thing on all their cars now, as does Acura.
My dad had an 05 Rx8. He loved it, but for a new car it sure did give him problems. I heard that the 07+ models were vastly improved.
His never flooded on him once, but the coils started going out while driving down the interstate. Suddenly he lost power, then started getting smoke inside the car. The catalytic converter was burning so hot that it started smoking the floorboard paint. He got rid of it after the dealer had to replace the coils and the entire exhaust system (chunks of substrate went everywhere).
Given that he had so few problems over the time he owned it, I'd still get one. I'd prefer the ones that don't have the black plastic moustache though.
