Turbo faliue caused by flutter (not to be confused with turbo surge/surge limit) could be caused by thrust bearing design or pre-existing shaft play. 360* bearing is a good upgrade is you dont want to run a bov. With a ball bearing turbo you really dont need a bov at all.

I'm going to get a Fmic, so the question is if i wanna go with the Ebay knockoff version or the real deal.
Is there a big difference in perfomance/quality?

no i dont sorry ...but the kit came with different sized brackets... i bent them a little bit and i had to drill the holes bigger in them...but mounted them to where the bumper support brackets mounted... (two toles) each side... it worked out perfect..

where did you hook up the hose that went into acv (i think thats what it is)? The hose just below the green plug just above the turbo? The stock IC pipe had a spot for it but mine doesnt. And for the hoses that connected to the stock IC did you just cap them off

the one that you say is vented to atmosphere is actually a vaccum. When i did get the car to start it was sucking in air. Is that the same one your talking about? Ill post a pic if needed. thanks again

yea but what i did was put in a washroom sink screen mesh... i had a piece and it had 3 screens in it so its really good for just letting in air... lol just be creative..

I see you have the stock plumbing between the AFM and turbo. I don't know your car's setup but I can tell you if you're persuing HP, that piece has to go. It is very restrictive. After I installed the hybrid turbo, my boost would drop as the RPM rose. I couldn't figure out why at 1st. I replaced it with a 3" flex tubing and engine sprung to life!!

what did u replace it with, ive gone with a ton of new things sence i rebuilt the motor, but my local shop would perfer me to go onto the internet find all my own pieces and part numbers and then charge me for ordering it threw them instead of helping me figure it out ahah, i was looking for ideas, thought maybe just clamping the filter right to the inlet.

Now, re: "..., thought maybe just clamping the filter right to the inlet. ". Which inlet? The turbo's? If you mean bypaasing the AFM, can'tdo. Ideally, the straighter/shorter the shot from the AFM to the turbo's inlet the better to minimze any pressure drop. My TO4's compressor's inlet OD is 2.75", the AFM's outlet OD is a about 3 1/8". My solution was to place an IC coupler on the compressor's inlet which then gave me 3" OD then I could connect a 3" hose of some type betweem them. I went to a local hose shop and they had the perfect hose: a spiral wire reinforced rubber tubing. My AFM now is positioned about 18" from the turbo and twisted 90 deg counterclockwise from its normal flat positon. The AFM rests on foam and using bunngy straps to keep it positioned. Not the prettiest site, but it works. Once I install the FMIC, I'll do a nicer job of mounting the AFM. Note that if you do this to a stock '87-'88 w/open exhaust, the boost will be hard to keep down because of the restrictive wastegate opening (about 15 mm diameter). My wastegate openeing is enlarged.
PS- Amazing the elbow's holes had to be widened in order to fit on the throttle body. Yesterday I sent an email to XO2 asking what will they do about it. No reply yet and I doubt I'll get one. I 'll just have the holes re-filled by a welder then re-drill myself.
Also, did you cut the bumper cover in order to fit back on? What tool did you use to cut?

sorry i have chnaged alot from doing this i dont have afm any more...running pfc...that is why i asked but i could not put my filter directly onto the inlet because its to big for it...im going to be upgrading turbo within the month.... so im not worried right now...
i used a dremel and cutt off wheel.... and then for the trim cut outs i used a whole saw bit i dont remember the size? ( 2.5maybe) and then just trimmed the rest away...
i had to cutt tons....probably 35 tiral fits befor it worked..and then its basicly pressure fitted cause the piping pushed on the bumper so mmuch.. but i wasnted to keep the front looking nice.. aswell as add some air flow...

Ebay FMIC Fitment
I know this thread is a bit old, however it helped me Tremedoussssly when i installed mine. So i figure'd I'd update a bit with some things i wished were in it. If there's any pics you need if you're looking at this hit me up and i'll snap some more for you.
I got the "Godspeed" but i suspect it was even a knockoff of That. BUT the piping was Neear perfect, and fit GREAT. Plus came with T-Bolt's and no crappy Worm clamps
we did however have to to Shim the motor up about 1/4th and inch or 1/2 an inch to have the driver side pipe fit better. Also with that had to move the fan shroud up since i'm using the Stock Clutch fan since it was making cotton candy out of the shroud while rubbing.
Test fitting
After getting it level. just litterally Drilled a hole in that center piece and mounted directly
Cut bumper a little and test fitting/Marking where i want the rest of the cut will be like
After a bit of this Number - with LOTS of help from Jeff (AKA Script7)
got some holeage
had do do a little poundage to get the pipe to fit around the brakecyl without rubbing bad
Had to bend the power steering a bit since i still have it, soon i'd like to relocate down and get rid of my AC, there's a thread about that on here too.
driver Side hole for piping to get to FMIC - Needs to be a little bigger, i forsee maybe having it rub through my Coupler/Rubbing making it break seal - Just FYI for anyone doing it, do this hole big and put rubber hose around the Cut
