MI Driving across the country!

Well gentlemen, I am moving to Seattle, Wa in the beginning of may, and I need some advice.

I have an 87' base with 154k on the clock, but a lower milage engine (around 80k)
Aftermarket parts include: Rb header, presilencer, then 3" catback from ebay. I also have a new ACT 4 puck sprung clutch, heavy duty pressure plate, new throwout bearing and a newer used tranny, also a new battery. the car runs perfectly.

My question is, What preventative maintenance/ parts should I install before I leave so I actually make it (I have some suspension lined up so that is off of the list)

Any info is greatly appreciated,

thanks

Make sure your cooling system is up to par. New coolant, radiator flush, thermostat, & Redline Water Wetter. You may as well get a new waterpump if yours is leaking, or its been over 60K miles since the last pump change. Make sure you have a good alignment, and that tires & brakes are in good shape. Otherwise have a fun trip and welcome to the NorthWest!

Oil, tranny fluid, diff fluid, make sure all the belts are in good shape, fuel filter, fuel sock

thats about it, make sure all the tires are inflated to your desired pressure (and above 30) for good millage

It's just a car.
If it runs perfectly now, you shouldn't have to do anything else except check the air pressure in your tires.

A couple of days of steady-state Interstate cruising are less stressful on your car than a week of rush hour stop-n-go.

w00t! driving to my neck of the woods....

Well, definitely make sure your fluids are all changed and new, keep a few quarts of oil and coolant with you on the trip. Inspect your spark plugs to see if they need any servicing. Id recommend doing a compression check to gauge the life of your engine also. Check to see if your FPD is working or if the plastic cover looks brown or cracked, if it is you need to change it for a new FPD to further eliminate chances of an engine fire. Check for cracks in your belts. Another thing you must check before leaving is tire tred/life and 4 corner brake pads. If you find yourself low on pads change them up and if you haven't serviced your brake fluid go ahead and do that since your have access to brakes already. If you feel pretty confident with the cars reliability then good luck and have a safe trip.

when your driving keep on eye on your gauges frequently.

When you arrive in Seattle and need help with anything there's a plethora of us FC owners willing to give you a hand, or even a swap...including myself. There is also a few somewhat local rotary shops in Washington as well if you find yourself needing a rx7 specialist.

Have fun and good luck!

And visually checking out the alternator is going to reveal a failure two hours in the future how?

I'll bet you really don't "check the belts and such" daily.
That level of paranoia is silly for a street car.
How can you possibly be comfortable in car that you suspect will grenade at any moment?

I'm taking my FC from MT to TX and back next year, so don't sweat it. Just do the regular maint. the guys stated above and you'll be fine. I took my FB from MT to TX and back with only 1 problem, but that's cause I didn't fix it before I left.

Take lots of pictures and post

P.S., welcome to the Northwest!

getting away from the scene here in michigan huh?

The economy in Michigan is one of the worst, i dont blame you.

I took a trip from Michigan in my FD all 2000 miles to AZ.

I changed the oil, replaced all the suspension bushings and Diff bushings (needed it anyway), new mounts, new belts and an oil change the day before i left and an oil change the day after i got there, also a new driveshaft. it was all stuff that didnt HAVE to be done really, but all things i wouldnt want to do on the road, and it didnt hurt to do them before they were bad.

Have a nice trip and good luck to you.
