I went to a car show back in may in Olney Texas. My father and some of his car buddies wanted me to bring my RX7. I was the only foreign car there. As I was backing it into my slot the guy placing the cars said my car sounded funny. I said it was a rotary and he just gave me a blank look.
Most of the people there did not know what it was and I got a kick out of listening to some who when they realized it was a mazda rotary engine they would say OH that engine has a bad rep for blowing up all the time.
Well, at the end I did get second place in my category. However, they moved me out of 80's modified and placed me in the late model stock category.

Its funny seeing an RX-7 in the middle of all those old cars.
But man, your wheels are hideous. I'm such a nice guy that I'll be willing to give you a couple bucks for them via Paypal tonight, but you're going to have to ship them out ASAP to me.
Seriously those are my dream wheels. What are the width and offset on them?

Thanks man. Yeah it was weird being the only foreign car there. The cars around mine are my Dads 35 Ford and the 37 Ford pickup on the other side and the 34 Plymouth are a couple of his friends cars.
I also thought it was funny they put me in the late model stock category. A full TII street ported swap into a vert is not stock.
The wheels are BBS RS 17X8 +35mm on the front and 17X9 +35mm on the back. They are my dream wheels as well!

Beautiful car. Congratulations on the second place award. Good job promoting the rotary to the collector car crowd. Someday maybe RX-7s will get some attention and respect...
Thanks David. I agree RX-7s deserve attention in this group. Even though Mazda has not released production numbers by type there were not many S5 RX7s produced in America. My first car was a 1967 Mustang Fastback with the deluxe interior and 4 barrel 289 V8. They produce 17,000 of those cars with that combo of engine and interior. That car today commands 20-30K and is considered a low production number. There were many more 67 Mustangs made that year.
The 89 RX7 all models, only ~16000 made in US. On this forum someone tabulated the number of registered 89 convertibles in the US and came up with a figure of 1553.
I would hope in the future these cars would gain more notoriety. My father recently said to me that most of the owners at these classic car shows are his age and older and he thought allowing the younger generation with their cars into these shows is necessary to keep the shows alive.

^I don't even think there were that many 91 turbos period. Somewhere on this board someone posted the amount of registered 91 turbos per the DMV as of a few years ago. I think there were only 90 on the road. Yes, 90.
