Buildup of my new FC
Just picked her up yesterday, guy said he traded his TII for it : parents say not to mess with anything on it.
- 86' SE
- Sunroof
- 2+2 seating
- Manual
- Engine is completely stock
- Brand new (performance?) flywheel
- came with extra manual transmission
- Brand new Master Cylinder in the box still
- Brand new brakes, but possible leak
- needs some work around the quarters
- guy said he installed some new bushings to the shifter so theres no play whatsoever
-Starts up,but seems to miss, but when you engage the clutch it idles perfect, brother says its something to do with the transmission and the clutch
- I might be selling the rims soon or i might just get some new tires for it
Not Bad for being picked up for only $500

Pretty good deal. Hopefully the PO took good care of it and you won't need a major tune-up. But maybe you should anyway.
Your parents say not to mess with it? Are they crazy? No offense, but I'd probably start with restoring those tail lights. Any plans for it?

i was really thinking about upgrading the suspension and taking out the original air box and making it a forced induction. And maybe new tires

new tires are a must especially for DD.
and suspension will make it a better drive IMO.
and i would leave it N/A for now. do suspension and new tires and just start there. i would also work on restoring the body parts like stated from rotaryjun.

awesome pick up for 500. i agree with everyone on the fixing the body up to make it look clean, new tires and something on suspension. and i do suggest the five lug upgrade with the brakes. and im sure your parents wont mind the five lug upgrade cause you'll be able to stop better which means. SAFER

or you can talk about "getting better gas milage" and add intake, header, RB exhaust. LOL
Just kidding! good buy for $500, have you checked the compression on the motor? If not you might want to find out how much life is left in that engine. That way you can gauge yourself for a rebuild in the future by saving up and having money that sits in an account just for your car in case of engine fail.

^Nice find for 500 dollars. As you begin to understand these things and your parents begin to see your passion, i am sure their "dont touch it" view will change.
Hell of a first car. Mine was an old 1981 cutlass 4 door, we use to bake the **** out of that thing.

This is what you should do.
Drive the car the way it is and get to learn the car as it is. Work on suspension and handling first. Don't do **** to the engine but maintenance like plugs, wires, fluids. Save up a buttload of cash. Don't you don't even need to dick around with changing the exhaust to something like a fancy racing beat NA exhaust. After a couple years you should have a decent stack of dough and you should have the cars handling characteristics tuned to your liking and have gotten some decent seat time and have developed a good feel for the car.
Now, it is time for power. At this point your best bet would be a Turbo swap, then you will have a better platform with much more power potential. Making any power in NA form is quite pricey for the rather small gains. This is the reason why I suggest not spending any extra on the NA setup as it will only dissapoint you if you are looking for 200+ whp and it will feel like you pissed away alot of money when you get rid of your NA stuff to go turbo after spending money trying to make decent NA power... However, if you do not want more than 190-200 whp then it is possible to do NA. But for the money it may cost to get you there you probably could do a stock turbo swap.
