Boso style exhaust

I was cleaning up the basement today and found a scrap piece of piping from an exhaust job I did a while back... I got to thinking about what to do with it and well... I think the pictures speak for themselves.

Well it was all in good fun, nothing permanent. I was just messing around with it. If you guys want, I can post a video of how it sounds with that pipe on it.

The full exhaust system without the boso pipe consists of a 2 1/4" pipe coming off the manifold that transitions to 2 1/2" about two feet back from the manifold. from there it goes all the way back to the bumper with one magnaflow straight through "perforated core" muffler at the rear. It's all welded and mandrel bent. It's a nasty system and it's crazy loud.

Boso pipes are sick if you don't get too crazy with it. I'm about to redo mine with 3" stainless piping for my t2 swap.

Going for something like this:

"Boso pipes are sick" unless you are in an adult, or live in a decent neighborhood, or dive said car to a job where you have any position of respect.. just my 2 cents..

To those who don't get it; allow me to shed some light. In my mind, boso style exhaust has one purpose...

to bring the lulz! It's not meant to be taken seriously in any way. It is intentionally goofy looking; and it is meant to make people laugh. I rock boso pipes on my fc as a reminder to keep building and driving it fun. I understand that a lot of you guys don't necessarily share my philosophy, and are strictly business when it comes to modifying your cars. I respect that. Obviously boso pipes aren't everyone's cup of tea. Please, just try to understand that it's only for fun as the op stated! lol

i don't really mind it that much, until some idiot kid clamps them on with muffler clamps and they fall off on the freeway. if they touch my car they are going through his windshield.

I wouldn't wish that upon anyone. Mine doesn't come off unless I remove it purposefully.

I kinda have to agree with you... I think I need lowering springs, fender flares, and stretched tires on some deep dish SSR's before it will look legit.

Edit: And thank you Kroehnke for explaining this style to some of the people here who have a hard time understanding it.

lol.. I think it's funny for a one off picture.. If you leave them on though.. I think you've missed the point of "lol crazy exhaust" - if you're trying for lawls all the time, it just isn't funny for very long. ^_-

Like if you showed up to a party in a banana costume - hilarious!
But then you show up in it the next day, and the next day and the next.......... It would get old very fast.

Actually Boso, or bosozuku, pipe styles cam from japanese motorcycle gangs that started in the 80's and later transferred to hot rod gangs. If you watch the 80's Anime "Akira" you will notice them on the leader of The Clowns bike etc. Cars started to use them in japan for that outlaw style and history, then as some weird art car homage, hence why they are almost always on 80's early 90's cars with the bolt on fender flares etc. I seriously doubt that 99% of the people who do it here know anything about it or why they are doing it, just some teenage monkey see monkey do, or I am just a cynical *****. Probably a bit of both.

Originally it was not to bring "lulz", quite the opposite. It's your ride and and not mine, so sorry for the negativity. I just someone had to say something, even though ill probably get the usual compulsory and moronic "hater / haters gotta hate" reply post from someone.

Yeah I'm sure it gets old after a while... I don't plan on leaving it on there all the time. (That's just one reason it's not welded on.)

I was fully aware of the history of bosozoku before putting this on my car... (I infact frequent the bosozokustyle website ) But I did this exhaust for two reasons: because it's funny, and because I like the style. I'm not too into some of the more "wild" cars they modify but I do like the more "toned-down" ones. I agree that someone had to bring up the history. I wanted to in the original post but I figured if people wanted to know, they'd search for it.
