Another thread on stock gauge lighting
Isn't there a way or already made way to change the colour of our stock gauges? I think it was rx7store.net I found some green led's for sale. But green is probly the lamest colour for lighting. We live in year 2008 there has to be a way to change the colour of the stock gauges. I know the red/orangeish colour is from the faces and not the lights. I also know corksport has white faced gauges, but I'm canadian and don't want a speedometer in miles. I wouldn't want to screw around with the stock gauge faces, for example colouring the faces differently. It has to be a fresh start.

Yeah gauge themselves are orange. The only way I think its possible for me to get a different colour is corksport gauges. And those are in miles so no thank you.

Here's the problem...
The stock instrument cluster is "back lit".
Which means the bulbs are white, and the gauge face is colored.
The only way to "change the color" is to redo the entire gauge face.
Why would you want to change it anyways?
Human night vision is best with red light and gets worse as you go to the other side of the color spectrum -> blue.
So, if you want a green or a blue "light", your eyes have a harder time adjusting to the darkness.
So, Mazda actually designed it right by picking orange / red.
Orange is closer to red, so your night vision doesn't get all messed up.

Thanks for the info ted. I guess than the best option for me is to get new face gauges. Like corksport, but it sucks because I don't want my speedo in miles. I know km's are labled on it, but it just doesn't cut the cake. Thats the thing too, I don't know what colour I would want to change the colour of the gauges too.

Your "best" option is to check out something from Japan?
I see them on Yahoo Japan Auctions all the time.
Mostly, I see white face gauges, but I'm sure someone is offering alternate colors too?
At least they are in KM's.

The center dash lights aren't backlit like this are they? I wonder how these gauges would look with a red led bulb? Making them more red instead of amber perhaps?

you can custom mount aftermarket gauges in the stock area and do whatever gauges you want. of course, this isn't a plug and play, hence the custom part. anything can be done, it just depends on how much you want to spend.
an example (not from an rx7)
