Another one bites the dust....

Well i was coming home from work last night....and was doing bout 45 in a 40 zone went to switch lanes from center lane to right lane and back end just went out. Tried to catch it almost did but whipped out the other way and lost control. Went into a 360 spin up a curb, past a tree (lucky me) and into a pole and some tables in front of this restaurant (closed). Car looks like ****. but Im ok. Umm i have pics which ill post in a moment. I figured the reason i went out like that was bad tires....the threading looked pretty bad about 30-40% left. Oh well im just glad im ok.

I wont be abandoning this car as most of you know I put my heart and soul and tears into it. But ill probably take it through insurance and see what they say. Let me know what you think ie. Totalled or Not Totalled. Ive also decided that if it is totalled to buy a roller and swap everything over. ^_^

Were you trying to drift? or just driving too hard for your tires?

It'll buff out.

Well the good news is that if it is totaled, there are still a lot of good parts to be had on the car.

Hey Smokems, very sorry to hear about your accident. Don't know if you remember me, but you made me a photocopy of the '88 FSM last year.

There was a very light rain here late last night and I'll bet this happened right about then. Supposedly that's when roads are at their slickest because there's just enough water on top of old oil deposits and such on the road but not enough to really wash things clean. Did this happen somewhere in Rockville?

You have nothing to lose by having your insurance adjuster look the car over and offer an opinion about whether the car is totaled, but I'd agree it most likely is. Problem is the adjuster will start from the Bluebook value which on our cars is usually a good bit below what they may actually be worth. Also they'll usually use the cost of brand new parts in their computation of the cost of repairs, so the damage could easily be a few thousand dollars. Looks like the worst damage is that driver's rear quarter. Front fenders would be easy enough to fix, and I can't tell from the pictures of the front suspension damage if there is any frame damage, but hopefully not. You might decide to just fix it at your own expense if you know a good cheap shop or can do it yourself.

Best of luck in any case.

-David

Yea, it's time to find a nice roller and switch everything over. I'm sorry to say that but would cost more to fix it. Oh, and just for future advice, if you want to show your car off, take pics of the other side. :P

That is definitely totaled. Buy it back, and strip it.

Do you think something failed that caused the accident? Rear end or tire or what?
