90 gxl soon to be owner

Hey guys so I'm new to rotary but always liked rx7s. I come across this 1990 gxl fc automatic with a bad transmission. He's sending a 5 speed tranny with it but that's all. It has 148k miles and barely any rust. I don't have any bills so every dime I make is going into this. He started with $800 but I got him down to $700 over texts and I think I could get it for $500 when I Show up with cash in hand. So do you guys think this is a good deal?

I think if you've already negotiated a lower price, and then you show up trying to give him less money, then you're a total scum bag. I would refuse to sell it to you at any price if you wasted my time like that.

The body looks solid, it comes with a replacement transmission already. What makes you think it's worth less than $700?

Well the transmission he's sending is a 5 speed and I'm pretty sure it'll be cheaper to just replace the automatic. No matter how much I'd like to have a 5 speed I can't afford it

Do some searching on the forums for things to look when buying used cars. $500 seems a bit low for a perfectly running, rust free rx7 that just needs a new tranny but you never know. Take your time and inspect the car very closely. These things turn into money pits faster than you realize

I'm not sure if I even want to go look at it now.. I would really like to have an rx7 but when I called a tranny shop they said the closest available trans was two states over. Ugh

That's a good car. Stick to the agreed on price. You know its worth it.
