i didnt start this thread for people to talk ****, i started it for the sheer love or running the touge.
nobody cares about being better than others, but bettering themselves as a driver.
you obviously arent a driver, so you should sell your rx7 and get a honda, if you even have an rx7.
when you are running the touge you respect the road and the other drivers, and you especially have a heightened sense of awareness. you can see when other cars are coming. i know i see them a few corners ahead and you can hold back.

and better than jeff gordon? we arent running nascar here, wow, jeff gordon can go 200mph on an oval. whoop-de-freakin-doo.

i was wondering when you where going to show up to stop this nonsense, but like ive been asking nobody else has anymore pics or runs or even videos of running the touge? I'm really into this thread since my car is outta comission and i live in Florida (flatter then a white girls ***)

Just a "little" contribution and teaser shots I guess... lol.

OMG this thread rules I love the touge. but
what setup do ya'll run. I have been slowly getting my car together here is a list of my setup

87 base SE:

suspension techniques sway bars front an rear
17x8 wheels with 225/45/17 hancook tires (about to try out the nitto invo's soon)
strut tower bars (no noticeable gain really)
4 Point harness (On stock GXL seats lol no air bag scares me)
rear camber arm

alinement this is the key i have notice that increaseing front camber slightly can give more bite on turn in so you can really cut into the corner.

I like how I am getting bashed simply because I say one should never cross a double yellow. Just hope no one ever gets hurt.

I do have an rx7. I do sanctioned racing, autox and drag racing on a regular basis.

yet again, as I have been saying this whole thread. Nice pictures.

i love mountian driving.. and at night ftw. ive only driven in the mountains at night once, and it was last year at DGRR.. pretty much the most driving fun ive ever had. and it really is safer than during the daytime, you can easily see oncoming traffic, and hardly any traffic in general

and suspension is all the difference. it is really scary on stock suspension.. after i got a set of teins, it became so easy, you just turn and the car goes!

i like it because it is very similar to rally racing, and im a huge rally racing fan. its not like racing some pansy oval track with safety barriers..

pics on Mount Brockway, Upper Penninsula, Keweenaw Pennisula, MI

Some of these pics were taken by me, some by my buddy in the M3.

Hwy 26 runs from Houghton to Copper Harbor, and it is a stellar drive. Tons of tight corners and undulating hills. At times it feels like a kick-*** roller coaster.

Well after adjusting my setup about 7 or 8 times I think I found a perfect mountain setup for my car.

Well I'm runnin with the TEIN Flex coilovers, Tanabe front strut, Cusco CF Rear strut for suspension.
I found that onmmountains the best setup is to adjust the rear stiffness to about 7/8 to the loosest setting I can go, I adjust the front to about 5/8 to 3/4 to the loosest. Then my shocks are 32 way adjustable, so 6 up front and 10 in back. So pretty much about as loose as the teins get, thats about where I am. And it works beautifully, cause I'm only runnin about 160-170 hp and I am one of the fastest that run the pass, only 1 FD, a Mirage (he's runnin 340 whp with sticky tires, so don't hate, he's fast!!!) and an STI are faster.

I remember we went up one night after an AutoX event and I didn't have time to adjust my setup and I was runnin with my super stiff setup and it was frickin scary!!! I was bouncin arouns when takin corners. Although I was slidin around like crazy, so it was a good time, but I do like the race setup more, and I can get some serious oversteer with the loose setup also. Damn I love my teins, so sick for daily driving, racing and Touge. Can't imagine many other coilovers as good as these for my kinda style!

What is everyone elses setup for Touge, I wanna see if your guys' is the same... or close

sweet.. i have the tein flex coilovers also, with front and rear strut braces.. very fun setup. just ask rotarybeat, he has driven my car. I like it a lot, these cars are very well balanced, work very well with a good set of coilovers. i had my TII weighed, and it was actually 50 lbs biased towards the rear with a half tank of gas.. with the teins at 12 clicks all around (softer setting), it just has the perfect amount of oversteer when you push it

I run some street lowering springs and GAB shocks, they came with the car when I bought it. I used to have coilovers with 6k springs on my old Impreza, but that's way too stiff for most of the roads up here. My buddy in the M3 runs H&R Springs IIRC, and they're just about perfect for our roads and daily driving. I think they're around 220 lbs/in.

Other than that, all I got for mods is lots of racing school, and Azenis. Good combo

im glad to see this thread pickin up.
as far as my set-up goes;
eibach ground control coil-overs set pretty low.
monroe shocks in the rear and stock blown in the front lol
front and back strut bars
and you cant forget the screwed tranny where i cant downshift into 2nd without a fight lol. and my bent front crossmember.
the crossmember being bent makes the car so unpredictable in the touge. im constantly fighting both understeer and oversteer, but it makes it fun still.

i dont see why you shouldnt cross it tho. i can understand during the day cause you usually cant see the person coming around the corner.
but us that actually do some serious touge driving only cross the line if its at night because you can see if somebody is coming... and if we decide to cross it during the day, its never on a blind corner.
its kind of insulting that you would think we are that stupid

What's the point of crossing the line? Just retarded IMHO

I never cross the line, unless the choice is between crossing and hitting a tree, and even then I only cross if I'm sure that there is nobody there.

If you're doing it just to go a little faster, then I think you're driving for all the wrong reasons. Read Dave Coleman's "Seven Rules of Mt. Akina". He sums up everything I enjoy about driving far better then I could.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a huge risk for no gain, but that's just my 2 cents.

you cross the line to work on your racing line.. cuts time and sets the car for the next corner.
Your already doing something illegal.. so this isnt much different to add into it

lol, there is plenty of room to set up racing lines in the SUV designed lanes here in the states. It's just as easy for me to set racing lines on the street as it is for to set the lines on Road America, or Lime Rock Park, or on any autocross, WITHOUT crossing the center line, double yellow, single yellow, dashed, whatever it may look like.

Legality isn't the issue at all, it's just about taking huge risks for no gain. Don't get me wrong, risks are fine, as long as there is something to gain that matters.

As I have been saying, if you're doing all this just to go a little faster, then IMHO you're doing it for all the wrong reasons.

But whatever, do what you want, cross double yellows, fulfill Darwin's theories.

I'm done arguing.

Keep the awesome pictures coming!!!
