2nd Gen Door Speaker Pictures
I know there are threads asking about door speakers for 2nd gens....
but I need to see pictures of how your speakers are mounted... preferable with the door panel off. My car is an 87 SE I believe, so manual crank windows. I took the door panel off today to try and figure out where to mount my OZ Audio 6.5" components, but am not sure where to go with them.
Door speaker pictures with and without the interior door panel would be great.
Anybody?

Once I get access to another digital camera Ill pull my door panels apart and show how they are mounted.
And I do have a pair of 6.5" Clarion SRR1616 2-way speakers mounted to the door behind factory unmolested S5 door panels. The door has manual mirrors and manual windows. The speakers just barely clear the door internals, I had to use the clarions because of the limited internal space, they only measure 1-7/8" deep from the mounting surface to the end of the magnet and it leaves just enough space to not catch on the window sliders.

to MDittz2ndGEN, i ran 6.5" pioneer speakers for 1 1/2 years. i know for a fact they fit. i had to mount mdf rings in the panel itself so to give some room, but i know for a fact they work. now, the window crank i had to make skip over it, but i found that you can use a toyota window crank. looked the same, i just never got around to doing the swap.

Alright, I actually installed 6.5 component speakers yesterday and took pictures of the whole install for you. First off, I'll tell you mine's an S5 Base, which had manual windows, but it's now been converted to power windows (you can still see the whole with the foam around it where the crank was installed).
They were taken with my iPhone so apologies for that.
The speakers are 6.5 Alpine SPR-17LS's, replacing some shitty Kenwood pieces of **** that came with the car (can you tell I hated them, haha)
1) Crap *** kenwoods that came with the car (you can see that it's on a spacer already - note these are about a 5 1/2- 5 1/4 size coaxials).
2) Mid wiring, and testing.
3) Crossover's mounting location (inside door skin, behind the window tracks - I'm all about stealth installs).
4) Mounting the 6.5 Woofer (by far the hardest part). This part took me an hour and a half to figure out. I had to use the original spacers PLUS the ones included with my Alpines, then angle one side out and recess the other. The speaker's driver would hit the window track's mounting point at the back of the speaker hole.
(note, you have to break off those side tabs for the door panel to clear)
5) Finished product
(window clears the crossovers, however my passenger side window is foobar and only goes down that far - it's always been like this though).

ya. about that crossover. i do pro installs and i would NEVER mount a crossover inside of the door itself. if ANY water gets in (which is very possible) that crossover is fucked.
personally, (and ive done this) i would have mounted the crossover in the floorboard under that mdf that runs the length of the car. but, i hope it all works out. and another thing, look into having the tweeter integrated into either the window traingle or the A pillar.

I know, I'm actually somewhat worried about the crossover as well. Currently it is mounted above the drainage pipe, and the about 3 inches above the bottom of the door, but still. I was pressed for time last night, so when I get a day off i'll re-wire that into the cabin.
