Wrapping Shifter Surround ??

Wondering if anyone has wrapped or painted (cleanly) the shifter surround ?

I am in the process of collecting parts for a manual swap and i picked up a s4 surround instead of a S5 not realizing that its not the same texture or squishyness (lol) and its dinged up a bit.

I dont think i want to paint it but i want it to look nice. I was thinking of wrapping it in fabric like a suede or something.

Give me ideas people !!! and advice of course

While im here any picutres or how to's about the shifter boot as well. i dont like the crown royal boot on it right now.

If it wasn't dinged up the S4 would be fine. I've used them for years as the local junkyard usually only has S4. Every car that had a decent shift boot I bought it surround and all. At first I put the S4 boot in the S5 surround for the difference you stated. Then I got lazy and just replaced the whole surround. As long as the surround is in good shape it's not really noticeable. As far as a boot replacement I'm not there yet. Still have one decent boot left besides the one in the car.

i grabbed it from a wreckers as everyone else wants a buttload of money for one. i was limited in choosing one that was not dinged.

i cannot imagine it would be too hard to wrap the actual bezel with some material.

I didnt know the surround had differences between series as i have OCD when it comes to details and thats why it bothers me lol

Here's a shifter boot. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mazda-RX7-8...dW7Vv8&vxp=mtr

Ouch I didn't realize shifter surrounds had gotten so expensive. I need to put some of these S4 surrounds I got with trashed boots on ebay.
