Another confirmed GTUs model!!! This one has some pretty cool documentation with it! So if you have the window sticker that will suffice as well. However the door ID tags, vin number and shot of the car is what it takes to be confirmed as a legitimate GTUs model!

It has been made clear now that there was NEVER any confirmed production numbers for the GTUs and all claims are made up and false. Only what has been found is what exists.

It has been shown that all claimed GTUs restamped models are not legitimate, there is no way to prove they were a GTUs. Bottom line Mazda calls the GS several models from base, GTU, GTUs and all custom orders (according to Beaverton Mazda). This GTU restamped 90 is more proving everyone is just making it all up because Mazda never confirmed anything!

“Maybe I can shed some light on this "GS" argument as I have a scan of my window sticker I dug off an old hard drive for you guys. Under model it says " RX-7 GS 2P"

Here's the fire wall:

and door sticker though I don't feel I need it since I have the window sticker:

Here's the car. Currently not much to look at as it's still in pieces from my Rx-8 diff swap and it needs a paint job.

This thread is powered by proof that killed the fairytales that there are restamped GTUs models, that we know how many GTUs models were produced and then proved that there are only 7 GTUs models known to exist!

This thread is powered by unicorns as the GTUs is absolutely a unicorn 🦄!

Another confirmed GTUs model found! However it appears this is already on the list and is just changing hands and is no longer in the condition it previously was posted as, but is being restored!

It is looking like these are the rarest rx7s to exist! Welcome to the GTUs owners group!

Also it is official that there are no restamped GTUs models to exist.

The only reason people made the claim of the restamped GTUs was because a Admin here made the claim they existed without any proof but saying his claim he made about production numbers that he cited himself on was proof o it. Almost 20 years later no proof and it’s dead. The he GTU is the restamped and there is obviously less than 100 GTUs models produced at best. Right now there are only 7!

The rarest rx7 is what the GTUs is looking to be! Neat!

This has been proven incorrect in the other thread.

False statement. The other thread was discredited. Claims made by a person who cited himself. GTU restamped proven, no GTUs restamped proven.

The reason this thread exists is because of the false claims made on that thread.

If you have a GTUs and would like to prove the claim, post the required proof and be on the legitimate GTUs owners list as one of the owners of the rarest rx7 model produced! I personally am happy you did what you know is the only way to prove your claim that you have a real GTUs model! That is why those who do post and those who do not argue if they should have to prove their claims!

Just picked this car up. It's in pretty good condition. Very original, some paint work, but nothing major. No signs of an accident, clean title and carfax history. Original motor. All matching Numbers. A little interior restoration work, a new exhaust is all it really needs. Reasonably well cared for. Plan to keep as a collector. Or sell for the right price.

I have been off this forum for a couple years and just looked at it for info on my 1993 FD. I was surprised to find this thread about the GTUs. I bought a 1990 GTUs new from Young Mazda in Easton PA back in late 1989. I kept it until I moved to VA in 2005. When I bought it, I had no Idea it was a "special" model. Sometime in 1993, I got flagged down in the parking lot of my pharmacy by John Matras, who was writing a book on the history of the RX-7 and he wanted a photo of every model for each production year. He spotted the GTUs and needed a photo. He came out to my farm near Broadheadsville, PA and took several photos of the car. One is on the back cover of his book and a couple others are on pages 91 and 93. He did some research and informed me that there were only 100 made to homologate for IMSA. I no longer own the car. I sold it to Robert Blake from Manchester NH in 2005. It was nearly bone stock when I sold it, except for the mufflers and aftermarket wheels. I included the stock wheels with the sale. Here is the VIN and description if someone wants to include the car in your registry list. If someone wants to track down Mr. Blake, email me rjarndt@outlook.com for his contact info. Blake gutted the pristine interior, installed a roll cage and race seats and painted the car white. Last time I heard from him, the car still held the track record for a couple of the local tracks in New England.

1990 Mazda RX-7 GTUs, VR, 2 door. VIN JM1FC3315LO800739
One photo is back cover of Sports Car Color History Mazda RX-7. Second photo is two of my cats sunning themselves on the car. Note both stock wheels and aftermarket wheels are shown.

Hello - Re igniting this post.

I am CA based and have a 1 owner ( collector quality ) 88 GTU - Red - 5 spd. There seems to be alot of inconsistent data on the cars - production numbers etc. This car has all the turbo body work- ( aero) 4 piston brakes- turbo seats in cloth- no power windows- but power sunroof and AC. Is there some sort of guide to production # of these cars? Will post pics of the car soon as I get some taken.

GTUs would have came with 16" wheels and no sunroof. Also was only made in '89 and '90. So being an '88 yours would not be a GTUs. Sounds like it's still a nice car though.

New to the Group...adding my GTUs w/ Pix

Good afternoon...I've owned my GTUs since 2000 and believe I'm the third owner. First owner hit a deer with it before I owned it, and the front bumper never matched right. Then the OEM exhaust failed, so I added a Racing Beat true dual exhaust and had it re-painted in ~2010 to get the paint correct. Then my son hit a tire tread at night on the interstate in ~2016 and we had to replace the front bumper again...this time no more GTU original bumpers/spoilers available, so I had them mount the only T-II bumper they could find (slightly larger chin spoiler). Engine rebuilt (with mild street porting) in 2019 by Legend Motorsports (Seattle, WA); transmission & clutch rebuilt, external oil system added, a/c converted to R134, Racing Beat springs and adjustable shocks/struts completed by Scanwest Autosport (Seattle, WA) at the same time. Son wanted CarPlay, so we replaced the head unit with the Sony unit in the last picture. Runs like a champ...125K miles to date; only about 3K on the new engine. Only thing I'm looking for is "new old stock" insulation blanket for the under the hood.

Enjoy!
