I use to float around here allot and even picked up a few FC's here. My question becomes is the current "fair" price @ 8500? SERIOUSLY? it use to be 3,500-4k what the hell changed so much to spike the prices? Perfect FC's were going for 5-5.5k Now fucked ones with clearly poor compression rings are going for 8k!?!?!??!

 

Gee, I don't know...maybe age and attrition?
Of course, the ones with compression rings have always been rare and hence, expensive.

FC's are cheap.

 

I'm seeing the same spike in first gen Miatas. Its wild.

 

I guess like a fine wine, FC's also get better with age! LOL!

 

 

Let's be honest. These cars are getting older and harder to find in good shape (rust free, running properly, clean title).
Plus let's not forget how many FCs were purchased when they were cheap and plentiful just to part them out and send them in to cash for clunkers.

 

You just have to look harder is all. I picked a few of these up for free in my day, but now one that should be free costs $1000 and is an aborted V8 swap / train wreck sitting in some hillbilly's back yard. You can still find a good driver for under $5000. Low mileage, GTUs, and Turbos in good shape can go $8000 +. I saw a crazy person on ebay asking like twenty-something thousand dollars recently for a FC.

They are getting so rare around here it seems every time I drive one of mine I get questions at stop lights and gas stations.

 

They are becoming harder and harder to find in a stock and unmolested condition. A lot of FC's have been destroyed over the years by this stupid Fast and Furious trend, and many have been neglected and left to languish. With the supply of good FC's to choose from ,we see prices increase. I agree with the above that ones we would get for free or next to nothing are actually now ovepriced garbage that we are forced to have to clean up should we want something decent at a reasonable price. People complain because their FC is worth nothing and is not a collectible classic and when the prices are up people complain that the prices are too high. Its a never ending viscous circle.

 

People chopping these up and making drift cars are making them more rare and more desirable. Same thing happened to 240s. That's why people moved to RX7s and Miatas. Heck, they're even making drift trucks because they're cheaper.

 

High prices arent so much a bad thing either. It means they're less likely to be bought for dirt cheap, a abused and unmaintained until they're sent to the scrapyard. They're starting to see owners with the intent and funds to restore them as an investment. While prices are up and quantities and down, I expect the average quality of these cars to continue to go up.
