I imported a JDM FC which appears to have no mods except a turbo timer.
However, it has the USDM-style FTP lenses and parking lights integrated into turn signal assembly.
i read that all JDM FCs came with bulbs in the FTP lenses and the headlights would pop up to flash.
Did any JDM FCs come with the USDM-style setup from the factory? Or is it likely that someone in Japan swapped to the USDM setup?
Post the vin, I'll doublecheck it. Japanese FCs are wired differently than North American ones when it comes to this. North American ones use the headlights' high beam, Japanese ones use a separate 194 bulb.
I just checked, someone definitely swapped it with USDM parts. The Japanese Flash to Pass lights have a subharness (F044-51-094A) that plugs into the Front Harness for each one, so take a look for an unused 2-pin connector nearby. If it's not there, someone probably did some butchery to the Front Harness "to get it working".
its really easy to do the swap. there are 3 wires, the parking light, turn signal and the ground, and in the US they all go to the one light. in Japan the parking light is in the FTP, and then the turn signal is just the turn signal.

I think it was converted properly because my headlights don't pop up when I flash the headlights
its really easy to do the swap. there are 3 wires, the parking light, turn signal and the ground, and in the US they all go to the one light. in Japan the parking light is in the FTP, and then the turn signal is just the turn signal.

Ah fair. I kinda like the USDM setup 😁 I like the orange parking lights.
i notice the headlights dont pop up when I flash them. I assume whoever converted to FTP lenses also did something to stop that happening. Do you know what they might have done?
Maybe something at the headlight switch?

Headlights shouldn't pop up when using flash to pass. It defeats the purpose of the FTP lights/windows. Also, 194 LED bulbs come in lots of different flavors with varying light output. My go-to is the 5-led ones, they're a pretty good balance of forward-facing and side-facing light output. And I get them in bulk to do an entire car at a time, so that flexibility is useful. For this application, more forward facing light would work better here.

Just posting here in case this info is useful to anyone who comes across this thread in future.
It turns out the previous owner did the following:
Removed JDM parking lights and replaced with FTP lenses.
Cut holes in each of the stock jdm turn signal housings in the exact size/shape of the bulb hole in the parking lights. (Kinda like a '+' shape so the rubber thing that holds the bulb can twist and lock into place)
Simply swapped the bulbs over to the new holes.
De-pinned the red/green wire from the blue connector on the headlight switch harness. This wire is what causes the headlights to pop up when lights are flashed on JDM FC (See picture from JDM wiring diagram).
I have bought a set of JDM parking light housings and plan to swap back to the JDM setup.
Thankfully the previous owner made it very easy since they didnt butcher any wiring and they simply covered that disconnected pin with electrical tape and since they modified the turn signal housings, I can easily swap between both setups!
p.s. I think its really funny that all the USDM guys want the JDM setup, meanwhile there was guys in Japan swapping to the USDM one Grass is greener I guess haha
