You might have better luck in the 3rd gen forum because that is a 3rd gen Rx7. I know it says it's a '92 and the 3rd gen section says 93-2002. That's because IIRC '91 was the last year the FC was sold in Japan. The FD started being sold in Japan sometime in '92. All we got here in the states in '92 was the FC convertible and the 3rd gen was a '93 model.

^As a guy who lived thru that period, USA dealers were still selling all the remaining 91 FCs (NA coupes, T2's & verts) throughout 1992~1993 until they were all gone from inventory. The first FDs showed up in USA dealers around Oct/Nov 1992, sold as '93 models. In fact I recall I had my '85 GSL-SE in for service at a local dealer sometime in spring 1993, they had an FD, a '91T2, a '91FC vert and a Miata all for sale side-by-side on the showroom floor! Salesman told me that the new FD and the Miata's were both selling out at a premium, so they were offering steep discounts on all the leftover FCs they had. I almost bought the '91 black T2 they had on sale there, but I just had my 1st kid, so I passed. Some 10 years later, with the GSL-SE gone, I picked up a used '89T2 that I resto-modded that I have now.

Thanks for the info, but what are u talking about when u said " Turbo rotor housings, Streetport, lightweight steel flywheel, intake, & exhaust.
No airpump, removed 6port sleeves & rods, wired VDI." sorry if its a dumb question.

That's part of my signature. It shows up on every post I make( I think you have to be logged in to see it). It's a summary of the mods on my car so it has nothing to do with your original question. It's just common for people to list their mods in their signature. I can break down in more detail what each of those mods mean/consist of if you like.

Yeah, I guess I meant only ones imported in '92 were FC convertibles. You're right the leftovers sit in inventory/on the floor till they're sold. I remember when I bought my first car in '93 at a Mazda dealer. A '79 Rx7 someone had traded in. I think the only new Rx7 they had was a leftover convertible, but I left with a sweet brochure for the new 1993 Rx7. I still have it somewhere.

The turbo rotor housings are just the housings the TII engines used. I used them because they don't have the diffusers in the exhaust port that the non-turbo housings have that prevents effectively porting the exhaust. Here is a better explanation. https://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/6pexh.htm And a little on porting. https://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/porting.htm
The lightweight flywheel is just a lighter flywheel than stock which frees up some hp by taking less power to spin. Car revs quicker. The tradeoff is it's harder to get going from a stop. The lighter the flywheel the harder to get going with out stalling. Typically two flavors the steel one @17lbs and the aluminum @12lbs. https://www.mazdatrix.com/f-writng.htm
Intake is just a cone style filter in place of the airbox. I have ducting from the front of the car to provide some cool air at speed but haven't built a box around it so when sitting it just draws hot air from the engine bay. Power gains are probably negligible. Exhaust. This is where you get your biggest gains on a rotary without opening it up and porting, but porting is worthless without a free flowing exhaust. So always do exhaust first. Mine is a full exhaust using a Racing Beat header and pre-silencer( RB claims a 20 hp increase I don't know but it is noticeable for sure) and once I finish welding all the rusted out places back up an old HKS sport cat back. Currently have some Ebay fart cans and a cheap Rock auto Y-pipe. It's just too loud as the mufflers cores are too big and have very little packing. Since I had stock mufflers for a while with the header/ pre-silencer I can say it was a noticeable improvement when I switched to the HKS mufflers. I removed the airpump since I didn't have cats anymore but this meant my aux ports and VDI( variable dynamic intake)didn't work since the Series 5 uses the air pump to operate them. So I initially wired them open to their high rpm setting. When I had it apart for the rebuild I removed the 5th & 6th port sleeves from the block and the actuator rods from the intake. I also machined away the bosses in the intake for the rods that protruded into the incoming air's path. This mod is controversial in many claim it kills low end and it probably does but the n/t doesn't have much power down low any way. I typically shift between 4000 to 4500 rpm in normal driving and the aux ports opened at 3800 so I really don't miss them. I also have the 4.3 rear end vs the 4.1 so that probably helps. It works for me and my driving style. Others act like it's the worst thing ever.

the US FD starts production 12/28/1991, and the last run of FC convertibles actually overlaps the FD just by a bit

I meant the only '92 FC's were convertibles. I knew there were FD's sold in the US in '92 as '93 models.

I must correct some things I said here. I got my years mixed up. I bought my first car in spring of '91. After I typed '93 I kept thinking there were no Rx-7's but the convertible there. I had my year wrong. I left with a brochure for the 'vert which I stupidly threw away when I moved from my parents house. I don't know when I got the 3rd gen brochure. Must've been sometime in early '92 when I was over there getting my car checked out for running/idle issues that ended up being carb related.
