glittery oil

i just rebuilt my 1990 fc and it’s been having some issues idling and starting which I just attributed to the fact that I don’t have the fifth and sixth port exhaust pieces hooked up. But I just drained the oil to make sure everything was OK, I haven’t even driven it yet and the oil has a whole lot of gold glitter. anyone know what went wrong?

Gold glitter typically indicates bearing wear. If you tear the engine down and look into it, be sure to flush the oil cooler and lines before installation of a replacement or rebuilt engine. Were there any signs of bearing wear when you tore the engine down? I know you said they looked ok, but I'm not sure if there were any trace amounts of wear.

i didn’t see any but this is my first time rebuilding a rotary so there could have been signs i missed. i’m gonna put new oil in it today and let it turn over a couple times, drain it again and see what happens.

possible success?? I threw in new oil and a new filter. Ran it for about 30 seconds and then shut it off and drained it. I don’t see anything glittering in the oil, there is what looks like very fine bubbles but it doesn’t look like metal flake, or anything glinting and most of them are popping so I’m assuming that’s normal? I was just thinking about the fact that I cleaned the rotors with a brass brush that left them pretty golden even after I tried to scrub them down and if that might have left the gold deposits in the oil? I’m gonna run to the store get more oil and a new filter and run it for a little bit longer and see if that changes anything. any advice would be greatly appreciated. I really hope I don’t have to tear this apart again.
