Do ALL car ship companies suck??

I bought a (hopefully) nice S5 two weeks ago. Problem is, I'm in Tennessee, car in NJ. I've been thru 3 ship companies...all promise the moon, yet not ONE has come close to picking up car, not one has ever returned a phone call. If you cant get the car, fine, call me back with a status. Is that too much to ask? Apparently, it is.
When I call them its 'we're trying to get a driver, 2 days max' or ' the route is difficult, no driver has taken it yet, just another day should do it.'.

Considered flying up and driving back...not my first preference due to its an old car I haven't checked out, and, lets face it, its an RX7. Had 'em before, love 'em dearly, but won't count on one during a 10 hour drive.

Has anyone ever worked with a car ship company that is worth a damn? Sorry for the frustrated rant...its where I am at the moment...

its only 10 hours, is dealing with this hassle less of a hassle than calling a tow truck if it actually needs it?

no, i have never had an issue with a tow company and flaking out, never even heard of such a thing. i would simply tell them if they say yes and can't do it you will never give them a recommendation. perhaps its a east coast thing to reserve a job whether you can do it or not, but that is a great way to ruin your reputation when you leave people hanging.

They don't all suck but it is a 'get what you pay for' system. In my experience, they operate a few different ways.

1. $ A broker puts a job up on a board and private drivers pick the jobs they want. Think Craigslist: you don't know when you'll sell those autographed MC Hammer parachute pants until someone shows up with cash. Often, the board operators just don't know. They'll give you hope because that's how they make a living.

2. $$ Regional depots: Cars are moved between depot locations and then get delivered to a final destination by a local driver. This simplifies the routes and makes finding long haul drivers easier.

3. $$$$$$$ contract an individual transport company to move your car on a dedicated truck. Think Pebble Beach or Mecum auctions.

This concludes all I know on the subject.
