Cracked end plate!!!!!

Hey guys so i just bought myself a series 4 N/A and the guy who previously owned it put his own water pump on too tight and cracked the end plate, its a hairline crack it doesn't lose any water but it cant hold any pressure so it gets quite hot, Does anyone think theres anything i can do to keep it running cool or do i have to pull the whole engine out and put a new endplate on it. please help!!

Sorry to say, you should probably pull it and replace that endplate.

Right now, you'll just need to replace the endplate. Depending on your engine condition, even *mild* overheating could cost you alot more than just the endplate.

Careful or you will blow them coolant seals. That might already be the problem. I am not sure how it can be tightened down and cause the overheating problem.

I second that. Even if there was something you could do externally to seal it up, which there isn't, it's still pretty likely that it overheated in the first place (maybe why the prev owner thought to change the water pump?), and that's what caused the crack, and potentially other damage. I'd suggest pulling that engine and finding the root cause. 13Bs are not know for there tolerance for overheating.

I'd be interested in seeing a picture of this crack.
If your motor is unable to circulate coolant then you shouldn't drive it.

This is an old thread, but I struggle to see how a cooling system does not hold pressure, yet does not leak coolant??
