Buying extra cars to build one !

I recently purchased 2 cars as extras so I could steal parts off for my build

Any one else do this ?

I get what I want instead of buying parts
Like trim, wheels and coil overs

Problem is one was a very I paid $300
Got a rebuilt engine, wheels and Few misc trim pieces
I put it back up on Craigslist for $200 and no one wants it

I would hate to dump it at the crushers but looks like I have too

if you don't have a title then no one will want it, period. even some crushers won't take your car without a title in california.

you could part it out, but then you got whole rooms of junk parts to try and sell and a bare metal frame in the yard to try and get rid of.

scrap doesnt go for what it used to either. You used to be able to scrap a car for $300-500. Last offer I got for a car was $50. Didn't matter if it was complete or just a shell.

costs a lot of money to ship those big chunks of metal overseas, do we even have steel plants in the US anymore?

my wrecked insight though has an aluminum chassis, takes a lot of beer cans to equal that amount.

I have a title for it

I'm keeping
Steering wheel (for future swap
Wheels
Some switches
Engine/trans
Brakes
Seats (for future swap

Possibly fenders

Has
5 lug hubs
Misc interior
Suspension
...ect ...ect

I wanted $200 for it
$50 for the Scrappers is cool for me but I would remove hubs and other parts to make that $200

It's sad really sad

The guy who I got it from was going to scrap it too

what's sad about it? there's nothing left to put it back together with so you are assuming some other vulture wants to pick at the carcass bones you left over? just scrap it.

if it was only missing an engine, then yeah, it might be worth saving. but from what you say its been picked away at, not everyone likes hand me down underwear.

non running cars have lost a lot of value in recent years, everyone has 4 cars in their backyard so anything that needs work is going to be nearly worthless when a running and driving car is only worth $500 and up.

$200 5 lug hubs
$200 control arms
$100-200 matched ignition/ locks w/keys
$100 fenders
$50 doors

This is not classified section, so this post probably will get you into some hot water, but you should open a post in classifieds. just copy paste this into your ad.

Also, your pricing is a bit high for a few items. Browse classified and see what others are selling their stuff at.

It's not a classified ad. Just an example of eBay closed listing prices, I understand forum prices are cheaper

However yes I did place an ad for it now.

I'd give things cheaper if it means getting the car out of my life lol or helping someone out

it's more a list of craigslist ad pricing, and your prices are still high.

most items you can't ship without a lot of added expense like fenders, doors, windows end even trim will wind up breaking as you try to remove it. stuff like carpet is valueless because usually it needs more work to revive than it's worth.

you may get close on some of those items but you're gonna be sitting on them for years. i speak from experience.

most people don't have the appropriate place to tear apart a car. HOA's won't allow it and cities won't allow it so mostly it's for people who have totally enclosed backyards or living in rural areas. once you have the car apart, as i said you got a whole shed of junk to try and pawn off. is it really worth the $1k you might get after a couple years and weeks worth of work? not to most people.

if it was a rare car like a delorean, maybe. you'd be better off throwing the ad on craigslist since most of it you will regret trying to ship.

I'm pulling off the little things
As well as
5 lug hubs
Fenders
Hood

scrapping it if no wants it

I totally understand
I have a Porsche 911 successful parts business
The RX7s are a distraction from the daily grind
I only got back into it because of this GTUS that I was after

In my business it is sometimes cheaper to buy whole cars to get what you want and making profit on the left overs.

There is no reason to believe that I can't make a profit reselling parts (putting them on a shelf and let them sit)

But I'm not trying to do that
I just want this thing gone

a case of "buyer's remorse" can be solved with BEER..

Sure it's good to have a Spare car to grab good parts off of,BUT If it's a burden then it's just a bad decision on your part..so sell it,part it fix it..but don't bitch about it..
Want it gone?..call Johnny Scrapper..Then grab a beer..done!

*actually I hear with the Quality of weed now a days,it can make you "forget" you even have any car in your driveway..!!! (LOL!)

I actually bought 2 cars,,like you...Took the best one..stripped the other one..Scrapped the shell.
The damn thing was down to 900 pounds..haha!..BUT it was GONE..out of sight out of mind!.Trust me you won't miss it!

Sell parts on the forum to make the money back. It's what I did with my 300 dollar parts car. Hell, i think I made twice what I paid and kept the goodies like the TII trans and rear diff/subframe, hubs, and engine.

Pull all of the wiring you can.
Connectors can be useful and if you need to repair a section of wiring you can use the correct colors.

Very good point clokker. I did that and even grabbed a lot of the plastic to metal screw connector thingy's and nut clips.

The car is going to the scrapper Thursday morning

Virtually everything plastic broke
Mazda made their parts so thin and brittle
Compared to other makes.

Skimping on plastic 😂

Good idea on the plug connectors I have been taking them.

But I will go crazier

Saved all the screws so I could use them on later builds.

I will post how much money they gave me for it
