Ok, do we have anyone who has had a real life experience with this LIM? I am seriously considering this for my 20b FD. However, I want to hear from those who have actually run this and saw a difference.

Also, which version is better, shorter or longer?

Any advise is much appreciated

It just came out, nobody is running it. Phil has it on his engine but he's busy making it look pretty so its gonna be a while before it runs. Its clearly better, how much better is anyones guess.

amp, I'm sure Prometheus will confirm this with me, but I actually sold the unit to you before I got this lowered unit. Also, I was told not to tell anyone about the 20B LIM from Xcessive. Hence I couldn't speak of this unit when I had it on the engine.

I looked into this option because I had some issues with the other. I heard about this prototype manifold and thanks to Prometheus, I had a chance to get more info and later test it out. I also hope they make the mounting kit as my current unit was nothing but trouble where my fabricator even said, "I could of build you one by the time we fixed all the issues".

Anyhow, Here are couple of pics of the engine as it sits.

LOL! I'm trying to make it pretty so people eyes don't hurt

Well, I'm getting the shell back from the body shop in 7-10 days. Then the engine will go back in and I'll have some more pictures for you guys. Also, its going to be another 1-2 months til the engine will fire as I still need couple of things that I'm waiting.

I'm curious to know how/why this particular length was selected. In speaking with Carlos Lopez years ago regarding my own 20b, he expressed that the shorted length (which I understand to be the basis for the Defined offering) was based largely around an intentional shift in the power band.

As I recall, and anyone can correct me if I am wrong, Carlos felt the factory length hampered linearity of the power band and stated the the specific reduced length shifted peak torque to a point that provided linear power output.

Why play with a length that a proven individual/company has demonstrated to provide excellent results?

*Disclaimer: I don't own either a cut stock manifold or the new Excessive offering

I have not tested the Xcessive LIM nor cut stock LIM but I think lowering less than 10% of total length/ volume specifically (less than 5%), of 20B manifold shouldn't affect much on a FI engine. I might can see it on NA application affecting the power band and especially carb'd set up but I can't really see change greater than 10% with Xcessive in FI set up.

The length is specifically lowered to clear the FD hood, in set up similar to Defined set up where engine has to clear the steering rack. In any set up that doesn't require modifying steering rack location will require lowered LIM or modified manifold. Other conversion such as Hinson/Pettit where new subframe is made and the rack location is changed or engine is pushed back to clear the rack, then you can use the Xcessive stock height LIM.

I agree that the LIM needs to be lowered to fit with a stock hood and stock steering rack location. As I understood it though, the LIM was cut to a particular length based upon Carlos's experience and preferred power output of the motor. The Defined kit was developed after this length had been determined, not the other way around.

If this is the case, I'm curious as to why Xcessive chose a different length to make their LIM, if 2-2.5" shorter than stock has proven performance results. It would be nice to know if the decision was based on engineering and/or practical experience in the length, or if it was just done to be different.

I love the design and would purchase one today if it were the same length as the defined kit. I'll have to email and find out.

According to the information I received from the Xcessive, I am told via email that, both LIMs are not produced to supersede each other, rather, the lower version of LIM was made to accommodate the non JC Cosmo Chasis.

As much as I want to agree with you regarding Carlos and Defined's ideology or so called testing results but in my mind, I would need to see how they came up with the results. I'm sure anyone working in any type of research should know, variables need to be constant and we also know power range, power goal range, etc could determine if certain length is optimal. Also, unless you are dialing the car to its 90+% max potential, most of us are just thinking beyond most of our needs. Like me wanting an F1 car and I know I can maybe push to 30% of its potential. There are so many things other than LIM length to make up what might be lost or gain from the cut or lowered manifold and might be over thinking things vs. just accepting quality piece with its function to fit. Xcessive LIM is infact VERY well made and once you see it, I think you could also figure out how it could benefit more than modified stock or how to experiment to maybe gain by playing around with volume. But What I really see benefit of is injector on each runner.. Maybe I'm missing things a but but to me that's a huge gain over others out there, especially in today's ECU/Tuning world.

it will not fit.. logan swears that for his kit.. the LIM needs to be lowered 2.5" for it to work..
ive requested with xcessive to test fit it their LIM with my DA kit.. but theyve stated that they have their own mounting kit in the works..
there are certain things you can do to get that other extra inch as there is some wiggle room with the DA kit..

I understood from this thread that it did not fit with with currently available mounting solutions. If it doesn't, then I just don't get the length selection. I've emailed them to ask.

I'm using DA kit.. but I had issues with it and had to do some cutting and such. But Did get it to fit at the end. I'm now waiting on Xcessive Engineering to develop their mounting kit and replace what I currently have.

Here is the latest pic of the engine in my new shell.

Stock subframe, Atomic rack, I had to modified the DA alternator bracket.. which by the time I spent that money, I would of started from scratch.

After you did some "cutting and such" were you able to mount a primary fuel rail to the block? I just want to make sure that it will fit.

Thanks,

Phil

Phil, I'm in the middle of this and would be doing this today. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.

Phil,

First love what you've done with your car I plan on getting the Xcessive LIM, but before I do can you elaborate on the cutting you had to do? Was it to the D/A kit or the LIM? I currently have an A-Spec subframe and was gonna switch back to stock using the D/A kit. Also you mentioned modifying the alternator bracket to install the new LIM, is it safe to say save the headaches with the D/A kit and stick with my current subframe until other stock subframe options are available? Please advise, again your car looks great keep up the good work.

I've actually cut nothing on the Xcessive Manifold.

Idel, I don't know much about A-Spec subframe. Also, as many of you are finding out, 20B swaps aren't just bolt on as some companies suggest. But I think Xcessive Engineering is going to do the best job than any out there. When they do come up with the mounting solution, I will be switching.

Here is the latest pics of the engine bay. I'm currently at SEMA and will post more when I get back home and be more specific about the set up. I also didn't have time to install the primaries.

Phil,

Thanks for the input, the A-Spec subframe is similar to the Pettit/Hinson sub. Do you have any insider info on the Xcessive kit? Do you know if they plan on using the stock sub with stock rack location?

Idel, Far as I know they are going to use the stock subframe and stock rack location with modified rack. I wouldn't be interested in anything else.. But Im sure Prometheus can better explain what they will do.

Motor mounts. Initially, the engine sat lobe sided. We had to cut and also get it as close to the steering rack. As you can imagine, this wasn't a fun task and definitely not a single person job.

Not sure if I could share this, but Xcessive mounts are suppose to be very precise by using cnc. I also can't wait til they produce theirs.

I'm getting one of these. I just wanted to get some rec's on the injector size.

I'm running lt-16. it's going into my rx8. I'm limited by the rear diff which breaks at less than 600rwhp.

I'm looking for high impedance injectors. I was recommended FIC injectors by my tuner. I was thinking 900cc for the primaries and six 1000cc for the secondaries. My primary importance is driveability. I was hoping FIC 900cc's will provide fine enough resolution for good idle.

do the above injector sizes sound alright for about 550whp and good idle/driveability?

thanks in advance!

I've seen A LOT of these things being shipped out.

I'd love to hear if any of you have something to say about the manifold form 1st hand experience.
