Wiring 20B in FD3
Wiring 20B in FD3
So I am trying to get the nightmare of wiring out the way!
I want to try and keep the factory wiring on the car in tact so if for any reason anyone wanted to change it back to 13B down the road or any other reason I haven't thought of the plugs are there. So I was thinking I could use plugs off an old ending loom to connect into the chassis harness on the FD where needed. The plugs I think I need to use are the white and blue plugs that connect from the engine bay to the chassis bay and don't go through the ECU? I am assuming these will go to warning lights and instruments but I cannot find any details in the manual unless I have missed them?
Can anyone help on this please. The ideal solution would be a pin out diagram for each plug so I know what goes where.
Thank you
Lee

Hey Leroy. So happy you brought this up. We made a complete new wiring for my FD from Motec ecu to engine, however we are a bit lost when it comes to getting the instrument up and running again!
Anyone?
Anyone?
There's a white multi pin connector in the upper passenger foot well that connects to the old fd engine harness that needs the big black wire regounded so the cluster works. That same connector also receives info from the tranny speed sensor, reverse back up, and the 1/2 switches on the transmissions. Also tach signal is feed to the yellow/blue wire near the passenger foot well kick panel. It's part of the yellow connector that plugs into the old fd ecu plug in. You guys really need to get a hold of the electrical wiring diagram when tackling something like this.
OP when removing the old engine, the harness goes with it. Theres no need to use anything from it other than the connectors for the sensors if you decide to re-use the fd sensors. Your ecu should come with a new harness to wire directly from computer to the ignition coils, injectors, crank sensor pick up, fuel pump, map sensor, engine temp sensor, air intake temp sensor etc. You can run new separate wire from the oil pressure sensor and connect back into the original plug in connector to avoid stripping your old fd harness.

Thanks for the reply T-Von,
I am aware all the old engine harness is not needed. I just wanted to try and use the old chassis/instrument cluster plug to connect to without disturbing the general car side wiring. I was next going to ask about the tranny and reverse gear wires. Some of which I figure I won't need. Does the blue plug that connects to the engine loom not have anything I will need from the bay sensor wise or anything? is it just the white one I am concerned with? I have found the white plug in the common connector list at the back of the manual but I am struggling to tie it up with much from there. There does not seem to be a tie up between the plug and a diagram anywhere unless I am missing something or short some pages?
When you say connect a new wire for the oil pressure sensor to the original plug are you referring to the plug at the instrument cluster end or the white plug? If it goes via the white plug this is where I would like to connect it for neatness and ease of access as much as anything. There would also be the coolant level sensor, the water temp sensor, And others I may have forgotten!
Cheers

^ Listen to this man as he will get you squared away. I personally don't recall using a blue connector on mine. Just the white instrument connector for the water temp, oil pressure, reverse switch, and speed sensor. Maybe I'm missing something because my car no longer makes the double beep noise with the keys in the ignition. It's always been a single beep since the engine swap.
