I still prefer the sound of a 2-rotor.

Many 3-rotors sound *wrong*. Like they're congested, is the only way I can explain it. SOME sound OK though

It's probably how the exhaust is collected. How do you blend three pipes into one? Do it like a V6 maybe? Yeah, some sound ok. I really like Lance Warren's HB Cosmo and Pac's RX-3 (when it had a 20B in it).

It's not the note itself (although that does sound too smooth), it's the way the engine drops revs real fast when the throttle's shut, slowing down even before the throttle is fully closed. So when the engine's revved, it doesn't zing up and then cut out, it kinda zings up and falls back down again, like it's choking. I don't like it

Jeff20b> yes it was on the shop floor, I was in the
process of checking it out to see if I could get it running
before finding a car to put it in,,, as for the sound had to
keep the noise level down since the neighbours would
have killed me, so I attached a 3rd gen muffler to it,
which made it surprisingly quiet, the 3 inch exhaust
on the car makes a totally different sound..
I really don't care what it sounds like I just love the
smoothness and the power!

This is as much a function of the exhaust system as of the motor. Put a Borla cat back on the car, and you'll have something that sounds like an angry bass trombone. You'll also have substantial hearling loss after a few weeks.

IOW, you'll get lots of compliments, but people will have to write them down for you.

At low speeds, my exhaust note (through a custom exhaust system) sounds like the opening note from the Righteous Brothers' "Ol' Man River". As the revs mount, the sound just seems to drift off into the stratosphere, mingling with the roar of the wind.

the exhaust makes a huge difference, with the full exhaust, it sounds boomy but it doesn't really sound much different than the stock motor with the rb turbo back

Yes, the 20B does sound a bit "muffled" compared to a 2 rotor.
The best way I can describe it is when you merge a Ferrari 12-cylinder with a "healthy" Grand National V6 turbo...

I like to describe the sound as a cross between a 6cyl and a rotary (13B).
I love the sound of 20B's, they rock.

To me it sounds like the exhaust is burbling under water at idle. and at higher rpms it sounds cool.
