Turbo Size Specific

Hello members, I'm about to purchase a 20B Motor and start the conversion process. Currently i have a Turbonetics T62-1 Turbo i would like to know if i may use this turbo on the 20B Single Turbo Conversion or would it be to small. Also i'm planning on doing either a streetport of bridgeport on the motor. So this will change the size of turbo that is needed. I do know that a lot 20B's are using T88 and such sized turbos. I'm farly new to posting so please be gental Well gang peace out.

We need to know your hp goals. FIY Just because a lot of people run a t88 doesn't mean it's a good average choice for your application. Personally I'm going to run a turbo just large enough to reach my hp goals but at the same time small enough to give me the response I want in the low end. Lag sucks! I'll take a nice broad power band over peak power any day of the week.

what's your turbine A/R? You will need something around 1.15 or 1.32 even with a big turbo like a t-72,76, or GT45,60,70 series.

You won't need a bp 20b to spin up a greddy t88. Thats what I have on my 20b fc and there isn't such a thing as lag. I still have stock ports and the driveability is great however it does drink alot of gas.

I have 62-1 with .70 and 1.15 A/R on my 20B (R.B. street port secondary only).
With this turbo it's not possible for me to make more then 5 Lbs. in first and second speed.

lol then obviously there is something wrong, either with your turbo or manifold design. I make about 8 psi in first and full boost as soon as I hit second.. 2 rotor, stock ports..On a full size t70

His turbo is to small. Thats whats wrong. His motor flows to much air for that turbine.

Seeing the compressor map, this turbo flows 62lbs/min at 17psi. What does it have to do with him building boost?

Sorry for Lateness

Sorry for answering late just started school again. Where can i find the A/R i don't have the box iy came in. And i was always referred to the T62-1 no other info. When i bought it i was told the turbo is good for 750Hp. I'm not the much of a technical guy i usualy pay people to think for me in that aspect. My HP goals is over 600 but run low boost of about 400 or so and 600-750 on high boost. I will post pics or any other info you guys might need to help out. Thanks

Oscar

I found this hopefully it will help.

he said 62-1, so I went with a garret one, which happens to be the one he posted.

It's possible for you, but for the 20B i thing the compressor wheel is to small. I need to spin more rapidly for go with rpm.
Or i check for put 1.00 A/R.
Anyway at 5Lbs. it same power with my 2 rotor at 12Lbs.

I would have to think that the 62-1 would be worse off on a 20b than the stock twins running parallel. And forget it if your thinking about porting the motor.

I'd do a T66 or T78. hotside trim in the 1.32. My personal pick is a T88.

Turbonetics of course. I try to not use greddy products as they cut corners when the manufacture things.

Well thank for all the info guys. But i belive that i get more of you guys trying to say to get a bigger Turbo. I do like turbonetics turbo's. But i would realy like to now any one with a street port or bridge port on a 20B. I mite have to due a poll to to LET THE PEOPLE DESIDE WHAT SIZE I SHOULD GO. Basically what would you like to have or what would you like me to get for my setup. Plus it would be in a FD so space is an issue when you go big. Well thanks for all and hope to here more info.

Why not start off with the stock seqentials and go from there? I would not bridgeport the 20B. A nice streetport would do just fine.

Cool

ReZ311 thanks for the info i spoke with my engine builder and he highly encouraged me to do a Large Street Port. So that's what i'm going for. And for the sequential turbo's i pretty much want to build it to it's fullist and not have to worry about upgrading later. Plus to be honest i did not like to seq turbo's one turbo is good for me.

If you want to build this to it's fullest potential check out auto-illusions thread. He's building a 1000rwhp bridgeport 20b fd. Nothing on it seems to be left out. Is that what your looking for? I seriously doubt it'll be much fun to drive on a regular basis. With some more tuning i'll easily be over 600rwhp with a greddy t88. With a small streetport and a t76 you'll see over 700rwhp with ease.

A T76 and GT42R (large) are about the same size. I believe both will be good for 600+ at around 15psi. 700 sounds like a stretch -depending on what psi 'with ease' equates to

I believe red-rx7 was running a t76 and had estimated at over 700.
