Question Parts list to rebuild a 20B

Lets put together a list of parts and part number that will be needed when rebuilding a 20b. I've been told to buy 2 of the 86-88 NA kits and only use half of the 2nd one. I've also been told that a 20b gasket kit can be had from Australia for not too much.... anyhow, what is the preferred method of rebuilding? Where can we get the specialized gaskets (intake, exhaust, rebuild kit, seals... blah blah blah)... and if anyone has price ranges on them, post them as well.

We need input on gasket kits (such as above)
We need the part number for the exhaust to manifold gasket.
We need part numbers for all of the intake gaskets.

I'd like to get input on anything else that may come up as well. I, myself, am planning on running the Atkins rotary 2piece 2mm seals in a street ported 20b, any input on that? (I really don't want to go 3mm on any more engines...)

if someone has already put this together, please post a link or inform me somehow of where this info is. I haven't been able to find it.

Thanks in advance!

Can someone share the secrets of how to find stuff on Mazdacomps website? www.mazdamotorsports.com if I'm not mistaken... I but in the engine type 20B, and all I see are a a bunch of flywheels, tools, spark plugs and Borla mufflers. What am I doing wrong here? Do you have to become a member to see the good stuff?

Also, when applying, do they count drag racing as racing? I see SCCA and stuff all over their webpage, but can't tell how to join for drag racing... any help is appreciated.

Does anyone know what a gasket kit for a 20B costs from Mazdacomp? Its the weekend, and I'll hopefully be able to have my account on Monday, but I'm just curious right now what the damage is going to be...

Also, if anyone has any prices for plenum gaskets, intake gaskets or anything like that, please post them as well...

The 1997 catalog is the newest one that you can get, as they are trying to keep everything else online. I think it's best to just call, but the catalog does help for a general reference. I can't ever find anything on that lame web site, either.

if you call and ask they do know what you are talking about. there are 2 ways you can do the gasket set
you can buy the 20b one 8AJ1-10-271A or you could buy 2 83-85 12a sets (that's the cheapest one) and get the intake gaskets seperately NF01-13-111A and NF01-13-112A. for the exaust gasket you could run 3 fd gaskets (they do one rotor each) or you could buy the 20b one(s). all the other stuff should be the same, oil control rings, side seals etc. they do list a different apex seal for the 20b. not knowing what the difference is you go with the old rule of thumb. buy the apex seal for your rotor housing. they have changed the finish and seal material a few times in the 70's. you could get the wrong seal for the housing, it can peel the chrome right off.

I'm going to be running Atkin's rotary 2 piece seals, so I think that will be ok. What about the tension bolts? Aren't they different? and the washers for those, are they going to be the same?

and is it confirmed that it is cheaper to buy the 2 gasket sets than the 20b kit? Just curious...

Thanks,
Nick

Tension bolts?&nbsp Are you planning to REPLACE them?

Stat-o-seals under the tension bolt heads - they are all the same, just order more for the extra tension bolts the 20B runs.

Will the 12a kits actually work? I've always been told to buy the 86-88 NA kits... Hell, I'm into saving money, so lets here some feedback on this

Don't HTML code **** you off?
You should've put some "PRE" thingees (I forgot the proper term) to keep the spacing correct, cause HTML eats all successive spaces and defaults to one space.

No one ever did say if they were re using the tension
bolt washers or if your changing these.
I am still waiting for my parts to come in
large tension bolt washer #
nf01-10-e55a
btw all these parts are available at your local dealer.

Yes RETED the 13b through bolt washers will fit most of the bolts but the 20B has a few larger through bolts that require a special 20b only through bolt washer. These are available separately from mazda(at least they are here in Australia).
It's heaps cheaper to buy 2 86-88 13B non turbo gasket sets than the 20b one.Keep the left over o rings somewhere safe for your next 20B rebuild. The early type 12A one will be no good, the o rings are different.
The intake & plenum gaskets are available separately from mazda & are roughly about $20 each aus(about $12 US)last time i bought them.
