Oil pressure regulator questions/upgrades

I was wondering if anyone knows the stock oil press reg pressure? According to the FD FSM, the stock relief is 110 psi. Racing beat sells a 130 psi race only regulator for $90.00. my question is, is the FD one an upgrade? if not how would the RB 130 psi one work for occasional street use but mostly track use? 2nd part, i am using s5 gauges in my fc, but i was gonna use an FD oil pressure sender./ will it read correctly or are the voltages different? thanks!

according to Racing Beat, you'd have the shim the front regulator 1/8 inch and a hardened pump is recommended.

if i undertsood it, they essentially said that if you don't use a hardened pump (Mazda Factory Race) with sustained pressures over 100 PSI, then the stock pump will kill itself maintaining such a high pressure.

woa..I guess I need to find a hardened pump then. Since FD uses 110PSI regulator, is that pump hardened?

not sure , but since it was designed to run at that pressure it's probably safe. question: aren't the 13B-REW front housings the same as the 20B? it should use the same pump, no?

I havent compared them side to side. It was my understanding that the 20B used alot of the FC parts. It uses FC CAS, oil pressure regulator and rotors

well i don't know enough about the intimate details of the 20B to speak intelligently on them being more akin to the 13B-T as opposed to the -REW, so hopefully someone else that knows will step in and settle this for you.

maybe you could try to PM Jeff20B or Evil Aviator (on this board) with your question. i know they have more 20B knowledge than i can offer ...

sorry , but i'll stay posted

The 20B has lots of S5 goodies. Evil A will probably have plenty of links to help answer your questions.

Thanks guys, but this is a question for a mechanic. These are not issues with my 20B project, so I don't know anything about them.

BTW, aren't the shims only for the really old rotary engines?

yea, ive been checkin on his links. lots of good stuff in there. also, after a lil research, the FD and S5 turbo use the same oil pump dimensions; 50 X 17.5mm
