I would have been disappointed to hear that you 86'd the semi-pp idea, but seeing as you decided to go half-bridge AND turbo in it's stead, I can't hold it against you. I am intrigued by the 370Z transmission swap, too. All in all, everything sounds real solid.

Yea, I REALLY hated to change directions, but it was like... buy another used eshaft for 2-3k and maybe have the same issue, or get a billet shaft, but that's 6k. It was a cheaper smarter move. The next motor I build will be all aluminum NA etc. The question for that motor will be 400HP NA 20b, 1900lbp MR2 Spyder... or RX4.... All for another day. One thing at a time.

Thanks for the update. I was really looking forward to seeing another NA 20b, but this is still a great build. Post more updates and photos.

Yea, once the shaft didn't run out well, it just wasn't worth it anymore. I guess I'll just have to build another NA 20b.... hahaha. It will either go in my MR2 Spyder or the RX4.

Very nice build. I have looked at the 370 Z box and was wondering how they would go with the 20b. What diff ratio are you running in the car as the 370 Z box's run a very low first gear compared to Mazda box's and I thought that would be a pain especially with the extra torque from the 20b. I think the Z car run a 3.5 diff ratio.

Darryl... I think the 370 box is pretty strong. There are a fair number of cars with 500-600 hp drag racing without problems. The Z's problem is with the halfshafts.

I have the mazda speed 5.12 in the car right now. Could go back to the 4.44 if i needed to. We'll figure that out after everything is running.

Comparing the 370Z ratios to the RX-8's 6MT...looks like they match pretty well, though definitely shorter first gear compared to the FD's.

370Z (model year 2018, assuming prior years are the same but have not checked)
1: 3.79
2: 2.32
3: 1.62
4: 1.27
5: 1.00
6: 0.79
Axle: 3.69

RX-8 (Series 1)
1: 3.76
2: 2.27
3: 1.65
4: 1.19
5: 1.00
6: 0.84
Axle: 4.44

RX-8 (Series 2)
1: 3.82
2: 2.26
3: 1.54
4: 1.18
5: 1.00
6: 0.79
Axle: 4.78

RX-7 (FD 1993)
1: 3.48
2: 2.02
3: 1.39
4: 1.00
5: 0.79
Axle: 4.10

With that 5.12 rear end, you might be glad you have the taller 6th gear if you do much highway driving.

Pictures really don't do this roof justice. Now to find someone willing to do the other body work I need......

Wait so because the E shaft was out of alignment you ditched the NA build for a turbo build because you didn't want to spend 2-3k on a new eshaft?

Sounds like you secretly wanted to go turbo all along and this was the right excuse to push you that way

2-3k on a gamble that it would be straight or repairable. Plus, adding in the additional cost was more or close to the same cost as a turbo at that point considering the custom LIM setup we were going to do. Heaven forbid if I got a second bad shaft...Turbo was the smarter choice given the situation.

I'll build another NA at some point... Maybe for my MR2 Spyder... 2000lb and 400HP NA sounds brutal.

Goal 350-450WHP NA
Preferably over 400WHP (very possible). 450WHP not likely (being a realist)

Mazmart
B series motor purchased. Reliable source, and on the shelf.

Built by Myles Fisher
9.7 NA rotors
1" ID Semi PPort
Undecided on modifying the stock ports. Will probably need to in order to meet goal WHP range.

Fabrication by Coffee Fabrication
Undecided on intake and LIM design
90MM DBW throttle body
Flaming River custom steering rack. Little faster ratio than stock
MK3 MR2 Electric power steering pump
Undecided on hooking up the speed sensor to the pump

Wiring by LMS-EFI
AEM 710 ECU
Stock ECU retention for OBDII readiness checks, AC, etc
Relocate both ECUs from the engine bay
Full engine bay rewire and wire tuck
Maybe relocate / hide stock fuse box
i would use ceramic rotor seals if I was turbocharging it. $ but worth it as standard seals can't take heavy high hp abuse. Anietti I think makes and sells them.

Because 7 club is dumb and you cannot edit your posts.... (You can in 8 club....)
Here's an updated list of things.

Updated 1/14 -

No longer an NA build
The eccentric shaft was fount to be out of alignment, and in such a way that it cannot be straightened. This will not effect it's use, but the RPM limit has been limited to 8500 RPMs by Rick Engman. This being the case, to make decent power before that point, turbo it is. I'll build another NA 20b later.

Goal 600WHP+

Mazmart
B series motor purchased. Reliable source, and on the shelf.
Iron lapping

Built by Myles Fisher
Large Street Port, and small halfbridge.
OE Seal kit
17pc Goopy 10mm stud kit
I-Rotay apex seals

Chip Motorsports
Rotor lightning, clearancing, and balancing
Billet oil pan

Fabrication by Coffee Fabrication
Flaming River custom steering rack. Little faster ratio than stock
Current plan is to run the 20b power steering pump
Optional: MK3 MR2 Electric power steering pump. I have the pump, but it's more complication.
Turbo Plumbing including vmount setup
transmission mounting.

Drive-train Parts
20b crossmember from Promaz
Xcessive Engineering Short LIM
3x ID 1050 injectors
3x ID 2250 injectors
Adaptronic plug and play ECU
370z JK40C Transmission

Oil pan is done. Builder should hopefully have it soon. Engine won't be ready for DGRR, but that's ok. Car will still be there with some body work done. I'll leave the bridged renesis in the car until we're actually ready to put the 20b in. Hopefully I can make some final decisions here soon about how I want to proceed, and we can have this thing ready by this time next year.

Was he able to make it have a rubber gasket instead of using a sealant?

No clue... Turns out he still has a few things he's waiting on to be laser cut. I would imagine that it is just RTV.

The groove looks like it could except an O-Ring but in either case that pan is wild. I'm scared to ask how much it was given how thick the billet needed to be and the time required to machine it.

Super interested in the electric PS setup if you go that route -
