This is the actual setup on this 3 rotor project found on page 1. What it does is go through the rotor housing on the periphery of the rotor arc (hence the name) and does the same job as a very large cam in a piston engine does: creates alot of intake-exhaust overlap. The smaller hole on the top is the intake and the bige oval on the bottom is the exhaust.

ya i know the basicly of rotaries but want to learn more, so please continue if you will

^ Side ports eliminate overlap to an extent which gives the benifit of more bottom end torque but with substantially less flow than a peripheral port. In essence, you will get better power from a peripheral port intake and exhaust than you will with a side port intake and exhaust (like the renesis). Both can have the same dimensions, but the flow is radically different because the intake charge must make at least one 90* turn per port. Due to this fact, a peripheral port will give you more power, but at a much higher RPM than a side port will because of the fact that the side port will flow, but it's optimum flow is at a lower velocity before it begins cavitating and slowing the flow of A/F mix into the housing.

Man its been a while since i posted. Ya i know i got a low count, i normally lurk in the backrounds with out saying much and learning as much as i can. Id 1st like to start by saying very sweet setup. Truely 1 of a kind. I was able to recieve the 900meg movie earlier, and i noticed some intrested in getting the movie. I have made a torrent and currently have 1 other fourm member downloading. Im only on a cable modem so please bear with me and dont bombard me with everyone trying to get it because im the only person who has the whole thing currently. I will leave my comp on for the next week or 2 so i can get as much out as possible.

Torrent Link

I hope you all enjoy. Mind you this movie is only 4 min long but i like the quality.

I look foward to hearing more about your car after the winter with the pports opened up

I figured a update was needed, so here is where I am at. I never posted this info before but here is a little history of my 3-rotor. When I first assembled the engine, I started it up and got things running smoothly. I was soooo anxious to drive it to a drift event (not compete since the motor wasnt broken in yet) that I stayed up almost two nights in a row to get her running. At the first gas station down the street, It started to run a little hot. I popped the hood, and check the coolant. It was low, "hmmm air pocket" i thought, so I went in and bought some water. I filled it up with almost a gallon of water, but it only was taking it in very slowly. I looked all around for leaks, and checked the exhaust for any white smoke, and neither were present. The temps droped, and everything seemed fine. Like a dumbass I ignored my common instincts, and continued to drive 30 miles to the event. The temps started to climb again on the freeway, once it hit 100C, I called it quits, I couldnt tow the car easlily, so I drove it back, coasting with the motor off unitl temps droped to 95c, and then drove up to speed again until it hit 105c ect. ALL the way back home. Once I got there I pooped the hood and oil was sprayed all over the motor, smoke rolling out. I let it cool down all day, and came back to diagnose it. I first drained the oil, and the worst (gut instinct told me this) coolant drained out, 2 gallons of coolant came out first, and then about 1/2 a quart of oil "Oh **** time". The oil was pushed out the top of motor from being less weight. I pulled the front cover, and couldnt figure out how the coolant drained into the oil pan internally. Finally I found it, a PIN HOLE IN A FREEZE PLUG!! I was pissed, installed a new freeze plug, and didnt rebuild it again, but the poor motor ran on nothing but water for almost 60 miles, over heating the whole time. I also pulled a front bearing, and the once new condition was closer to 250,000 miles specs showing alot of copper. Well, cant really kill it anymore by running it I thought. SO, this is the motor that continued to get pounded on for 6000 miles and events all over. The compression is 90 on all rotors, and was this on the dyno as well. But I dont like using excuses, so It ran good considering. So the point is I am tearing down the motor finally to change all the completely shot bearings, polish the e-shaft, and maybe some other cool alterations. I will post a pic of the front bearing in a few days, to show the carnage. I think this motor is proof to how durable a rotary can be, and the reason we all love them.

Sorry i never chimed in earlier butit took me 3 days to build up the courage to read the entire thread. Its damn long.

The swap looks amazing.

A couple of questions though,
1. You mentioned sellign a kit, are you still open to doign these?
2. Does the engine placement leave room for a trubo + manifolds to suit?

Now i noticed you guys need video hosting.

Its the stock FD tranny. No modifications were done to make it fit the motor, as the bolt pattern is almost the same (one bolt not used) and the location wasnt changed.

Are the sideports streetported? Large/Small?

Very nice job BTW. I have plans for a similar one but no P-ports. Chassi and engine are already bought. Race car only is the plan.

That should be very fun to race! Will it be tube frame? The streetport I would say are on the smaller side compared with what I've seen others run.

Well, I am tearing down the motor to replace the damaged bearings. Then once the p-port mani is done, I will re-dyno hopefully in May or so.

I am not sure who makes them, a friend had them from his early racing days. They look alot like the old mikuni 13B manifolds.

hey Gto
I'm stuck between a LS1 and a N/a 20b i know the lS1 is going to run me about 10000 running counting selling the old 13B. i just wanted to know how much you have spent to get the thing running N/A before the bearing meltdown.

If you really love the rotary, no other engine will make you happy. If you really love the rotary, spending a little more money to have a N/A 20B will make you overjoyed with happiness!!!!

OH yeah, bearing meltdown didnt seem to slow it down any either, still ran strong everyday.

yeah im thinking just to spend the extra $ so i can keep it rotary and since its NA it should run for 200,000 miles. it be a daily b/c i don't see the point in spending a whole lot of money on a car and only enjoy it maybe once a week.
