My 20B will be here in a few hours!

I just bought a cosmo front clip this morning -- well, kind of. I had to send an employee from my laser business out with the laser truck to get the engine. It is very awkard to miss out on seeing the engine for the first time, and not being the one picking it up, but we are too backed up for me to take a day off. At any rate, I just got the call that he was back in the state, and only 5 hours away. I can't wait! Hehe, I'll have to race matt (now) to see if I can get my clip started! I have no idea how to get it out of the truck yet, since the deck is very high on it (frieght truck -- actually, its an Isuzu NPR that you guys are always getting intercoolers from! So.... I might just have to fire it up in the back of the truck! If I was real creative, I'd tack weld an FD subframe from one of the parts cars to the back of the clip, and put some rear tires on it.... hmm, that just sounds very unsafe.
Anyways, I'm excited and this is the only place I can really talk about it. I doubt the pizza delivery driver will appreciate my enthusiasm. Perhaps the water meter reader? The gas station attendent? Nope! That's what you guys are for. Hey node!! Get down here and check it out! I'll take you for a ride around the block in my 20B clip!

WOOHOO!!! Reminds me of the Simpsons where homer rides the Atomic Bomb
"Please do not ride the 3 Rotor"

I'll see if I can find a way to get myself up there sometime and go poke around

But anyways, hows the kid and poor turbo? And will the 20b be another addition to your family? It would if I had one.
Oh, and Schmiddles says hello

yeah exit13b, is this gonna replace the bridge 13b in the FC? i've been waiting for an update to your other thread since you said that you were getting the TEC3. if the 20b is going in the FC, i've got a buyer for your bridge motor. let me know if you wanna sell it.

This one is going into an FD. The FC is being repaired fully -- although I may consider selling it or parting it out at some point. My TEC III is here, but now I need two of them! The TEC III is definitely the computer to run on the 20B -- full sequential injection, full control of leading/trailing for all 3 rotors with no waste spark, seperate rotor fuel trims, plus all the benefits of the old TEC -- but with only one ECU instead of two! Electromotive finally recognized the rotary in a big way, and made what I belive is an unprecedented effort to support it. I sound like a commercial... I am going to modify the factory harness to run with the factory ECU without the tranny for the good of humanity before I remove the engine from the clip. I have confidence the procedure will be similar to the one I perform on auto -> 5-Speed swaps on 13B FD's (haha, I've always wanted to put that qualifying suffix in front of 'FD' ... that felt nice!) But of course I am am being pretentious in that I do not have a 20B FD yet -- follow that?!
I am completely undecided in how I will port and aspirate this engine. The devil on one shoulder says to PP NA, the other says strap the largest turbo known to man with a partial bridge!
The truck is out front -- I'll take some pictures shortly and post them here.

Here's some pictures of the clip in the truck -- I still can't find a tow motor to get it out!

Ooooh.. a brand new alternator!

They took the rotor center from the steering wheel. And where is the GPS system?

Here's a shot of the engine management system and Turbo:

These are the 2-Rotor DFU's -- not for use with 3-Rotor, but you get the idea!

Enjoy!!

Greg, schmiddles says screw you

George, wow nice, actually very nice, I say go for the civilized approach, fully street legal, 600rwhp monster, a large streetport and a turbo that doesnt have too much lag, thing is you can call it a "mild engine" because you know that 20b has more than enough.
But a PPort would be amusing, 400rwhp N/A 2 liter
Whatever you do it'll be one scary ****
And BTW looks like turbo is doing good

That front clip scares me for two reasons. One, that is a seriously tiny intercooler! And two, those are seriously tiny front calipers! I mean, really! Mazda has a heavy, very powerful luxury sedan, and it has front brakes that look like they were stolen off of my '80. What's up with that? Why not use the already-available 4-pots from the FC/FD?

Greg: Mike, my partner, hates cats -- including turbo -- just as much as you. Trust me. We never argue about business, only turbo. I took those pictures to prove that I had a TECIII to some moron who said they were not shipping. It's kind of like taking a picture of a new invention with a current newspaper in the picture.

Yep, the intercooler looks small, but it is nice and thick. It is much bigger than a stock FC intercooler, so I am sure it suited well for its 'luxury' purpose. The calipers look like they would swap with a 2nd gen -- I'll definitely be carefully examining each part as I disassemble. But FIRST I gotta weld this straight axle to the back so I can drive the clip around -- and I'll need those brakes! Haha! Dare me to do it! I'll start another pole: "Should I waste 20 hours of my life making a temporarily driveable cosmo clip for the furtherment of humanity"
Hey node! Come help me lift this thing out of the truck! Seriously, it is very sad because I can't even think about the clip for a few days since we are buried in work here. Delayed gratification, I guess?! Who wants to polish parts for me? More fun to come....

Opps, I meant FD intercooler. H*ll, the backlog of paperwork on my desk is thicker than an FC intercooler.

Hey, I'll volunteer my time. I have nothing better to do. I'm sure my parents would love to see me doing something productive. Just tell me a day you need some help and I'll drag myself over in some crappy clothes. I'm pretty much free all day, every day.
George, just make a tube frame for it. You have front brakes, Just get a driveshaft, a differential, and you don't "need" suspension, just another luxury. Hell, Get a shaft driven motorcycle rear, weld the suspension so it wont bottom out and have fun. I'm sure that'd be a site. 3 rotor 3 wheeler.

Anyways post back about if you need my help with anything, hopefully I can learn something. Or if you need to e-mail me toss one at node10@attbi.com
See ya then!

Just weld two tubes to the underside of the clip, then weld those tubes to a solid axle, and strap a couch or something on there for you to sit on That would RULE!

- PJ (90/10 weight distribution... yeah baby!)

I have a straight axle here from an, ugggh, domestic vehicle: a blazer, I believe. It is complete with diff, and hubs. All I need to do is weld it on with some scrap metal, and then weld the driveshaft directly to the pinion flange. Yeah baby! If I could find a tow motor to get the clip out of the truck today, I would have some fun after we close! Open exhaust, 3 rotors, lazy boy... FD wheels on the front, gm-something-or-other wheels on the back: that is a sweet ride brewing right there!
Hmm... here is another neat thought. Since there are no rear brakes, I can simply plug the rear line. INSTANT LINE LOCK!!! Ahh yeah, 3 rotor burnouts with the cosmo hybrid. Plus, the weight distribution that peejay mentioned! Of course I will take video! Who wants to help!? How about some moral support at the very least? Who wants to see this happen? Hehe.. we just picked up an auto-darkening welding visor this week. This sounds like just the project to test it out on! Lots of welding required! I even got the key with my cosmo! It has japanese writing on the tag; someone needs to translate for me. I'll take a picture later... Sooooooooh gouy!!

Are you going to the Pan Nationals in Atco in July? I plan on driving my 3rotor FC out there, or I may trailor it if I have a worthy towing vehicle.... I'd like to stop by the shop either on the way there or back and check out the place... that would rock

its a 15 hour drive for me to NJ

Anyone want to hear a sound clip of a 20B running on 2 rotors? Yep. The middle rotor has no compression. I could tell the moment I cranked it over. I am pissed off. Anyways, it is out of the truck and it runs. Sounds like any rotary that is missing a rotor. Oh well...
