My 20b "all rotor" FD project reborn. And it will have cup holders again
Last year I got into a hefty accident with my FD. I broke 4 ribs, cracked my skull, ruptured both ear drums, broke my nose, and messed up both ankles pretty bad. Had to tolerate being in a wheel chair for 3 months. Great news is I am walking around great now
. As for the car, very few parts survived the impact, and it was junked. Luckily the engine made it out for the most part, needing a new drysump, front cast iron and rear cast iron. So then I began looking for a replacement car. I've owned over 17 Rx-7s of all years and generations, so thought about porsche 911's, Honda S2000, and more. I actually bought a S2000 shell that was very nice (pictured), and was super close to doing a 3 rotor s2k. After lots of thought, and talking with Gmonsen among others, I went back to the FD of course, I love it way too much. Found a good shell (Black non-sunroof too!!! Yes!!) and now am starting over! This will be a time attack car mostly and see alot of summer driving on the street. I never usually post a project until its complete, but screw it I will do this step by step. I promise this will be much meaner, and more badass than the last one
The new FD after I bought black body parts (thanks PDviper77!) to start getting it together

The S2000 that ALMOST became a n/a 3 rotor

Started to gut the full interior and all the wiring harnesses

Dropped the subframe for cleaning up and modifications. Got a retarded great deal on those RG coilovers straight from Japan. My favorite suspension.

Had the full subframe bead blasted of any rust

Fabricated additional bracing for all the suspension pickup points. Also welded in any areas open

cleaned up the rear diff and had our machinists make some solid diff mounts. Here is the finished product next to another stock diff

I want to take full advantage of the drysump system, so I will be moving the engine back quite a distance and getting it flush with the lowest point on the chassis.

It all was demolished. Except for the engine. I have it sitting in the new engine bay for now with our engine mount kit, but it wont stay in that position for long. I have the new coils mounted, and built the ignition wires.

These are the prototype block-off plates we have for sale now if anyone needs them. 20b, 13b-rew, 13bt and more available. Much better than old rags.

Going to try non-power steering this time, see if I like it.

Didnt take any pics of the finished subframe before i installed it, the camera batteries went dead haha. Here it is installed

Yeah the intake will be a throttle body setup, and the semi p-ports will get their own too. With so many customer cars to finish here, my project is last in line. But I will feed some cool things here and there.

I am not sure, he picked it up and is driving it all the time in Atlanta Georgia. I talk with him every once in a while, and the car runs like a champ with no issues. He is planing on bringing it back in for a check-up and maybe doing some tranny upgrades with more boost. So maybe I can update on it in the near future. I am pretty sure he will be going to the Chris meet though, so people can see it in person there.

Logan... Maybe I am overdoing it, but I thought this was a somewhat brilliant idea and I hope, if he is there, you and he can talk about it a bit and what it accomplishes. There should be a good pickup in air overall between the rad, IC, and air intake, right? And, there should be less piping and hoses? Plus, a cleaner looking install?

Ohhhhh, so that's what you have been doing instead of working on my car...
You know I am kidding. This project looks to be pretty sic..
I am ready for warmer weather and for you guys to get mine together. It has sort of been out of sight out of mind. Look for a care package from me in the next couple of weeks.
Are you still considering LizardSkin or some other sound deadening and heat blocking product for that beast?

Hey GtoRx7
First off, awesome build, many props to you.
Second, I would really like to know who widened your wheels? How much did it run you? I need someone to do the same for me. I have some nice wheels and they are 10 rear and 8 front...I would like to go to 11 rear and 9 front and I cannot find any 11's that will fit in the stock rear(RX-8) because of the offsets, they always stick out. The car has over an inch and a half of clearance towards the interior so I could totally widen the current ones and it would fit perfectly. Thanks in advance.

Yes, your car is going to be coming together fast in the next two months. At least some major progress. Yeah I am going to do the lizard skin, love everything about it once you showed it to me. Has everything a hot interior Rx-7 needs lol. Hey GtoRx7
