hmm i wonder if this loophole would take me out of que (for the next registration period) for a test only station. thanks so much for this tip! this may prove to be a way around smog problems with the car (crossing my fingers)

nope. well technically youre not supposed to have a 20b in the states (on the road) but since the car is so old it will never come up.

Yep, some dufus drove a military crane into an overhead passenger bridge and damaged it enough for police to CLOSE the entire freeway going one way.

I would think Hawaii would be pretty lax, since a LOT of military come through here (from Japan).
There's a few RHD cars running around here, so I think getting to sneak one in would be easy down here.

people suggested getting it registered out of state, or in a county "far far away" but if i get pulled over and have my name and address on my licence, and then have my name and kentucky on my car, it may also get quite ugly. really the only solution i can think of is become VERY good friends with a test only guy.

PS was that the e11v1 or the v2? i seem to recall a bunch of people way back when overheating, and or frying their e11's. was the 20b really just not worth it to continue to persue ECU options? just wondering.
i had an early e11v2 (sn is 117? give or take), its been back to haltech since and they say its fine (its actually a couple weeks from going into another 3 rotort), and since my whole engine/harness etc went into another s4 car, with a different e11 and was fine (mostly), we're still blaming the ecu.

i have some pics, but basically on the e6k they use the case as a heat sink, and the e11 they dont. plus the stock ecu location is under the carpet but above the dp, when it was out dangling in the air, the car was more reliable...

my smog situation sounds a lot like yours, except my guy is a test only guy, so theres no worries there. if you need the addy shoot me a pm. i dont really know him that well, he just doesnt look at the car too close/doesnt know whats supposed to be on there. ive smogged some odd crap too

84 gsl-se, with a header, and aftermarket cat, really clean runner, but header should fail visual, but i didnt have a stock manifold!

85 gsl-se; this one is an ex race car, msd's everywhere, 3 coils, wiring everywhere, missing all of the emissions when i got it, i put an air pump and a rigged acv on there. he was kinda scared, car passed....

hey thanks alot! that would be a great help. ill send you a message when its up and running. hopefully i wont have the same issues with haltech as you did. i was planning on using an e11v2. ive heard about other problems with timing wandering and blowing motors with the e11 as well, so im a bit heistant to use it. however, its the only ecu that has enough outputs and wont cost me $10,000 to get running with.

anyway, first order of business is finding an "impressionable" brake and lamp inspection fellow. unfortunately im battling a salvage title as well. -heath

cops looking under your hood

this is totally different from putting dohc heads on a 4 banger, usually its an engine that was available here anyways.

your modifiying an approved engine thing doesnt work either, i had a 20b in my fc and nobody looked at it.

the difference between then and now is that the cops have a little book, and when they pop the hood of your 240sx they know how to find the SR20, basically its an instant ticket to go see the smog referee, and they have a book with engine and ecu numbers...

people are putting the KA's back into their 240's here, because they cant get away with the SR's anymore (they dont pass smog out the tailpipe, 20b will)
IF ANY 1 OPENS THERE HOOD WHEN A COP HAS PULLED YOU OVER ,YOU DESERVE A F---KING TICKET , NO SEARCH WARRENT MY HOOD LACTH IS BROKEN

they dont have to open the hood, they just give you a ticket to go see the smog referee...
