yes, I'd like to know too. I have a cosmo sway bar. From the looks of it, it wont fit without some cutting and welding

yeah thats what i think too. which isnt called slightly modifying a swaybar, its called totally destroying a swaybar. if you could just cut and weld it, i would have done that and saved myself all this time and money, but swaybars are heat treated steel, and cutting and welding them ruins the spring rate and the strength.

its a cut & weld job...its still working well with that SP 650whp on a gt42r and 10" wheels out back...i did ask him about the strength issues and he told me he hasnt seen any cracks or brackage yet...since some of u guys have a JC sway bar why dont u try modding it? how often will ur cars seen extreme cornering to twist & brake a welded bar? BTW cutting & welding a 1" bar is childs play for some guys, thats why he used the word slightly..

its not that cutting and welding it is hard to do, i could do that in my sleep. its that sway bars are made of heat treated (spring) steel, and when you cut and weld it, it changes the spring rate. basically it leaves a soft spot right where you did it, so that that area twists a lot more than other areas of the bar. the only way to fix that would be to send it somewhere after welding to have it annealed.

It may not ever break, but it will never perform the same as it did before.
See, the function of a swaybar is to twist, thats all it does. when one wheel goes up as you corner, the bar twists, making it basically a spring which then applies force on the other wheel to keep the body level. If you change that spring rate, you change the amount of force it is able to apply, which makes a pretty significant effect on your handling. If anything with a 20B you would want a stiffer rate, not a softer one, which is what you will get if you try welding it.

anyway im thru trying to explain, it really has nothing to do with the point of this thread. search around, ask some suspension experts, or even some good machinists or engineers if you know any, they'll tell you just what i'm telling you now.

here, check this out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sway_bar
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_treating
http://www.theherd.com/articles/swaybar.html

another note here is that with this kit I made installed, you could easily buy one of the mass production aftermarket bars like racingbeat or suspension techniques or tanabe or whatever, and it would bolt right up and give you similar gains in performance as on a stock fc.

took it for a drive yesterday, didnt get to have too much fun cause it was raining, but it seems to have got rid of most of the body roll. it didnt help with my hard steering issue, i think thats a weight distribution thing, might have to switch to a real manual rack instead of my deleted PS one.

it looks like it will be nice today, i'll try to hit some twisties and let you guys know how it works out

We track our 20B car, and we didn't want to compromise the design.
The only downside I see with that relocation kit is that it's a single shear on the ends.
This might or might not be a problem, but it's a chance we didn't want to take, and we were willing to pay for a redesigned bar that drops into the stock location.
Cutting and rewelding a spring steel bar is just something we were not willing to do, period.

Hey guys just an update, I have driven the car a few more times, it feels significantly better than it did with no bar. I used to have a nasty oversteer problem, which went away, and body roll is a lot less. I was trying to make a video of me thrashing it around in a parking lot for you guys, but unfortunately its been raining the last couple days, and its supposed to freakin snow again this weekend. At this point I am fairly confidant that the kit works fine, but I still want to take that video. As soon as that is done I will pull the wheels off and check everything and assuming nothing is bent or broken, I'll go ahead and make a couple more kits for whoever wants them.

Ok, I have had 2 people PM me wanting one of these in the last little while. I relocated for a job this summer, so I would have to have these made and shipped to me, which is a bit of a pain. If I can get 3 orders with a deposit (which will go towards final price) on each one, I will go ahead and make a batch and get them shipped out. Price was $105 shipped anywhere in the 48. Deposit will be $25, and lead time will be about 3 weeks from the time you make a deposit till they arrive at your door.

If you are interested enough to make a deposit, add your name to this list, when I get at least 3 people, I will take the deposits and have them made. Mods, PM me if I need to move this to the group buy section or something.

List:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

one note: since everyone mounts their 20B a little different, I cannot guarantee that this will fit everyone's setup. If you buy one and it does not fit, send it back to me and I will refund you $90, the other 15 will cover my shipping costs. I do not think that this will be a problem, since my motor is pretty much as low as it can go without hitting the steering rack, but I would rather get it out of the way now than have someone pissed at me later. I'm no businessman, just trying to help other 20B guys out here and not get screwed for my trouble.

also just in case anyone is worried about this breaking, I have around 2k miles on mine now, including lots of spirited driving, a couple nights at the strip, and one auto-x. I'm not gonna say it is perfect, the only reason I won the autocross was there were no other cars in SM2, but it did make the car dirvable where without the bar I wouldve been in the cornfield, and I havent broken or bent anything, so I think it turned out fine. Still not as good a solution as a custom made bar, but not bad, and a hell of a lot cheaper.
