FC3S 20B front bar...revisited
FC3S ONLY!
Okay, we managed to get a prototype front bar made and got some good testing in this past Saturday on the track. The good news is that it works. The shape of the bar is not perfect, but we are able to give feedback to the shop to take care of this with very little fuss. We were running the 28.5mm (1-1/8") diameter, and it feels a little soft for us; we will be stepping up to a 31.5mm (1-1/4") diameter on the next bar to see if this gives us better balance.
The first 28.5mm diameter bar is dimensioned on the stock FC3S front sway bar.
The holes are drilled in exact location to the stock front bar.
the 31.5mm front bar will have three holes drilled for adjustability, with the stock hole location in the center of the three holes.
This should give a little more flexibility.
Remember, our race car is running a little over 2500# with a 20B with no turbos.
A 20B with turbos (or big single) is going to have a little more weight up front.
Why the big jump in bar diameter?
Unfortunately, the shop can only handle SAE measurements in 1/8" increments.
We're hoping the extra holes of adjustability will help in installation.
Currently, the shop is only willing to manufacturer the bare bar itself.
They are not willing to coat it or include hardware for installation.
We are using Energy Suspenion center bushings which are easily ordered from Summit Racing at around $15 for the pair.
For endlinks, we are using the Racing Beat adjustable units ($60 / pair?).
I can offer powercoating or cad plating for extra money, but this **** isn't cheap in Hawaii.
To cut down on costs, I would recommend getting this taken care of locally.
If you want a complete kit (will include the Energy Suspension center bushings and RB adjustable endlinks), I'm willing to put together the complete kit (basically, I'll just add the Energy Suspension center bushings from Summit and RB endlinks from RB prices).
I'm also willing to take care of powercoating or cad plating locally - be aware, the coating / plating prices might be kinda steep.
I've asked for interest in the past, but this is a definite go from us.
We are looking for at least two other confirmed buyers for this mini group buy.
The price will NOT exceed $300 shipped for just the bare bar.
If you want us to put together a complete kit, prices will change.
If you want the bar coated or painted, prices will change.
Any interest?
Hey Evil Aviator (or any other mod), I hope you don't mind this sitting in the 20B section for a little while...

Nice, Ted!!! With luck, I should be able to sell my current setup and have my 20B relatively soon. I will definitely be up for one of these!
Thank you for getting this made.

Hey Ted. I know you have other things going, but have you found out any more about this? My motor is due here soon, so I'll be lstarting work on my project just before Sevenstock.
Thanks!!

Thanks!!

Yeah, sorry about not having an update for now, but we're busy trying to get our track car ready for this weekend.

Once this event is taken care of, we should be able to get solid pricing and info on the front bar.
Thanx for the interest!

If you guys are serious please email me. Ive already spoken to the shop and he knows what I want changed. He also agreed to deal with each of you directly, but if you would prefer I can deal with everything myself if you send me the money. Its up to you.
Currently, as Ted said, the bar I have is 1 1/8 and fits well. The car handles ok, but it is too small. The only tight spots are at the steering rack mounts. When both endlinks are off the bar, it will piviot into the mounts and stop. Im running 500lb springs up front and I havent been able to "bottom out" the bar. I have told the shop to modify my design to solve this problem, especially with the larger 1 1/4 bar.
Sooo...... if your serious please let me know. You can either email me or Ted or call me, which I would rather email you than post the #. slidingsky@yahoo.com
Thanks for your interest.
