Dyno'd the fc yesterday...
I got the 20b fc dyno'd yesterday. First run was 409rwhp but the boost was set really low. Second run made 584rwhp at 1.4bar. Third run was 587.4rwhp at 1.4 and the torque is 465.8. He leaned it out 10% for the 3 run. It still runs a little rich but thats okay. Each run he stopped at 7000rpms. Driving the car to the shop I had no overheating problems. Just normal driving over there it stayed about 95c. It didn't overheat on the dyno either but on the way home it pegged the gauge out at 110c and the coolant overflow started spraying coolant. Not sure why it did that. Anyways Here's the dyno sheet and a list of what the car has. If anyone wants to host a video I have it. Just let me know. Thanks.

I was thinking that also. The shop I went to dyno the car also tuned it a couple years ago. He said when they tuned it they didn't have access to a dyno and he was curious hiself. He said it should make 650 with some more fine tunning.

Probably won't be taking it to a track real soon. I'm in the AF living in Japan now. I'll be heading back to the states in about 3 months. Living in New Mexico. I'm going to be looking for a donor body for it when I get back. Anyways here's a few pics of the car.

This is a completely stock internal 20b motor. It has 13b housings. The guy that tuned it is also the guy that dyno'd it for me on Saturday. He said I should easily be able to see 650rwhp with some more tunning. Just normal driving it burps and backfires alot and it's real bad if I downshift

1) My engine has large porting. His is stock.
2) I put a turbo on my car that equates to the porting configuration, along with mating appropriate AR sizing, wastegate sizing, and exhaust flow. I didn't just grab a turbo out of the box and say, hmm.. lets try this. (Not saying he did, but he has a stock engine, so obviously a T88 isn't going to be maximized on this configuration, let alone Destin still mentioned more fine tuning was needed).
3) We tuned for 100% WOT. This means we didn't just get on it and try it a few times and call it a day. We made 15 or more runs at WOT for the tuning; JUST on the DYNO. Most of the tuning at WOT was done on the street with appropriate load conditions, air temp, etc. We just cleaned up the crap on the DYNO.
Look at his power curve, then look at mine. This again should give you indication of turbo potential. Clearly, my turbo setup is running OUT OF BREATH. It has the perfect curve for ME, but doesn't have the PEEK setup his does.

HIS
I added a few values to his graph for assisting in conversion for comparison.
Here is the graph:

Reference values:
PS X 0.9863 = HP
KM/H X 0.621 = MPH
Destin's MPH to HP values:
75 KM/H or 46.575 MPH = ~ 33 PS or 32.54 RHWP
112.5 KM/H or 70 MPH = ~ 230 PS or 226.85 RWHP
150 KM/H or 93 MPH = ~350 PS or 345 RWHP
187.5 KM/h or 116.5 MPH = 587.4 PS or 579.35 RWHP
My MPH to HP values:
70 MPH = 198 RWHP
90 MPH = 560 RWHP
100 MPH = 600 RWHP
114 MPH = 628.8 RWHP
Notice my HP made a large jump from the 70 - 90 MPH range (went up 362 RWHP). This is where the dual ballbearing comes into play, as well as turbo efficiency.
Destin's large jump went up in the 90 - 116 MPH range (234.35 RWHP), but his was already on the climb in a few RPMs before that.
Also take notice to his never giving ANY indication of letting off. Typical of a large turbo, it is breathing much better at that higher RPM. If he would have taken the car another 1000 RPM it would STILL be climbing. Notice mine flattens out at 600 RWHP.
You can clearly see the differences in engine porting, turbo matching & sizing, and application uses.

Hey Destin, you should write me at ryan@rxtuner.com I'd love to get your car in the next month's issue of RX Tuner ... it's going to be the 20B issue.

Jasil this comment proves that you don't understand rotarys very well. Now I understand your previous bashing of our engines reliability because you have a serious lack of knowledge.
Red-Rx7, Thanks for posting the 2 charts side by side with some extra info. It's very interesting.
BOOSTD 7, I really would like to have the car in a magazine but there's a few things lacking. 1 I didn't build the car. So i'm not going to take credit for it. I bought it in pretty much it's current form. There's no way I could ever afford to build a car like this with AF pay. I payed 600,000Y for the car. I put the wheels on it and bought a full set of defi's. I'm planning on doing a few other things in time but not now. 2 the car set for some time and all the polishing that was originally done in the engine bay has gone to waste and is corroding. I've worked on it some but it's necessary to pull the motor out so I can get it cleaned up properly. I'm going to be taking the motor out anyways since i'm leaving Japan in about 2 months. Today i'm going to start pulling some stuff out and Friday and Saturday the motor and drivetrain will be completely out.

Destin, write me anyway ... let's chat via e-mail. It's not about taking credit for somebody else's work ... you can credit them in the story if you want. It's about showcasing your ride, and getting it in print! Since this Aug is going to be the 20B issue, it's there perfect time. Why not, nothing to lose.
I have an update on the car. Today I took the motor, tranny, and the fuel system out. I found out that it has stock 550's in the primary rail and 1000's in the secondary rail. I'm getting pretty close to maxing the injectors out right? I'm not sure what the duty cycle is. The fuel pressure at idle is 3kpa.

We only did 232 at the wheels on a DynoJet, and we were hitting 70% on stock fuel injectors!
You only have 50% more capacity, which should theoretically be a 500hp max.

Are you running an aftermarket FPR?
-Ted
Yes. Sard fuel pressure regulator. Okay so I should sell the 1000's and put the 1600's I have in or should I use the 1000's as primary's and the 1600's as secondary's? If I use the 1000's as primary's who sells a rail for them? I have a secondary fuel rail from k2rd for top feeds. Right now it idles just fine with the 550's in it. I heard about people putting the 850 fd secondary's in. That would be allright I suppose.

I too, am building a similiar setup. Fresh overhauled and streetported 20b, with stock fd rotors and rotor housings....I'm also running a T88H-34D. I was hoping for somewhere in the 800-900Rwhp range, but with the stories of high boost problems and what not, im wondering if I will see it. supposedly the "rule of thumb" in japan is 600ps with 13b exhaust housings and 1.0 bar of boost on a T88. So, mine will be flowing a bit more air than "stock" but I dont know if it will be enough to net 900 at the flywheel with a boost limit of around 1.4 to 1.5bar. I wanna try and keep the motor in the car as long as possible =) For now, I'm using the stock S5 turbo tranny, with a Mazdaspeed LSD and a 4.30 ratio. Im assuming i'll be going thorugh trannies like a champ. If it gets to be a big problem, then I will have to look at either an HKS dogmission or OS giken gears. both are pretty spendy. So, a bigpath around my point, I should be ok with the 1000 primaries and 1600 sec's? can i get away with 850 primaries to try and help idle quality?
I'm very impressed with these 20b motors! I am trying to educate myself with rotaries, for I am interested in purchasing one in the future. On these 3 rotor systems, are they typically used for drag applications? Obviously they are more powerful engines compared to the 13b counter-parts, but would these engines be too much for drifting applications?

. Will you be taking it to the drag strip any time soon? Got some more pics of the car?
