Anyone have any expierence with rotaryshack for 20B's

Thought I would ask some of the guys who have bought any of their 20B's from Robert @Rotaryshack. I was wondering how it came and were you satisfied with what you recieved. I spoke to Robert today for the first time and he was very nice and informative and seems to be a pretty stand up guy. I have done some research that leads me to believe that there is a difference between some of the Cosmo 20B's. I have found that there are a 1st Gen style and a 2nd Gen style. It seems that something changed and the desireable one to have is the 2nd Gen. If so how do you distinguish between the two and what is the major difference between them. I am going to start my 20B project ASAP and would like to have it done by next April. I am thinking about getting the motor from Robert. If there is anywhere else I can look for other importers of these motors that would be a great help. If anyone else reading this post has done the 20B in a 3rd Gen I would love to hear about your setup and how you got it to fit wether or not you made a subframe or bought one from Petit or some guy in Texas that Robert mentioned to me who sells one which is supposed to bolt right in and let the 20B drop in with little effort. Any info provided will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot for all your help, Joe

read near the end, where the difference is explained.

I would recommend to look real close at the motor to
make sure because now that more people are
discovering the difference I am sure there will be
people out there stamping extra letters on old motors,
to pass them off as newer ones..

Thanks Matt for your input. I really appreciate the fact that you were willing to help out and not blow me off and telling to do my own search and so on and so on. I'll be honest I don't mind helping anyone out but there some guys who get all nuts on people because god forbid they ask a question that may be common knowledge to them and they feel better by ripping on a new guy. I used to have a '98 Supra making about 800RWHP and I was hardly ever the forums page because a lot of the guys were a**holes when it came to asking a simple question. I hope I don't run into that problem here. Between myself and my good friend Demetrios at Reative Racing I think that we will be able to biuld quite a beast and will be looking to this board for help and suggestions sometimes.

If anyone else out there can answer some of the questions that were in my earlier post it would be greatly appreciated. Once again thanks to all in advance for any forth coming info.

Joe

I think you will find, most people in 20b forum are good
and are helpful, unlike some of the other forums here.
I have asked questions outside of the 20b forum and
just got dumped on...

1st gen 20b's are known to have the alloy looking intake manifolds 91-93 i believe, the only cosmetic change was after 93 when the powdercoated it to look darker. Other than that, no mechanical changes were made.

part right part wrong,
I am going to have to remember that line when I
sell my early motor, "no mechanical changes were
made", and just not mention the physical changes.
There might not have been any mechanical changes
but there some real physical changes made.

As for the color of the intake, it was a cosmetic thing
done on really late models, if I was buying another
20b I would still look to see what the run number
of the motor was, and look for the subtle differences
just to make sure someone hadn't just put a new intake
on it, as well as stamped a new number on it.

I am sure you are going to start to see numbers being
ground off or restamped, the more people discover the
differences.

That guy from Texas is Marcos Acousta. He's done some FD 20B transplants. Go this link: http://www.3rotorrx7.com/ and he has a link on his page to Marcos. This is another Texas one, same co. that helped the FD guy with his transplant. http://www.alamorotary.com/

I talked to Marcos on the phone a couple times trying to get him to do an exhaust manifold for me but he wouldn't do it without the car in his possession.

I thought Atkins Rotary in Washington (http://www.atkinsrotary.com/) also sold 20B's, as well as Pineapple Racing. http://pineappleracing.com

There's also Pettit Motorsports, and PFS (Peter Farel Supercars (sp?) on the east coast.

Never heard of Rotaryshack before.

Never heard or rotaryshack building 20B engines.. So i really can't comment. But i know it requires a special tool.. I would suggest Don Marvel (http://www.marvelspeed.com). He is a Honest guy, who builds great engines!

Oops, forgot about Ray Lochhead of SR Motorsports...he built my motor. http://www.srmotorsports.com/

He was very helpful on the phone, is very honest, but... he's expensive and isn't as timely as I would have liked.

There are some Aussie and New Zealand guys that I believe will build a motor and ship over here as well. One is the guy who runs the 3-rotor web site, http://www.3rotor.com/ . I know he sold a thoroughly polished and ported 20B for $10K last year. Don't know if he'll do another...maybe upon request?

You should ask on the Aussie/NZ forum and see who those people know as well as they seem to do some really cool rotary stuff down there.
