AEM Smart Coils

Hey Guys,

I know this question has been asked on different setups, but I am running a Microtech LT12X with a Borg Warner S366 Turbo on my 20B. Currently I have it wired to 6 Gen 2 coil packs. Are the AEM Smart coils a simple remove/replace or is it more complex? It seems that I am fouling plugs on a routine basis. I am getting about 10-12 MPG on the highway (driving conservatively) and I recently replaced the spark plugs and wires and I am wondering if one or more of the coil packs is going bad. Thanks for the help, I don't know what I would do without this forum!

Seems to me like you should be fine on any type coil for normal driving. Breakup/fouling is more likely from too much boost/water/fuel for the coils. Maybe your idle/part throttle areas are too rich? Have you checked the resistance of the coils?

I have a full set of 20b coils/igniters that I'm not using if it turns out that you have bad coil(s) and you don't want to switch away from mazda parts.

Go to the microtech subforum and look for my post about using LS1 vs Smartcoils. User, Bumpstart, has an excellent response detailing everything necessary to switch to "smart coils". It looks like a matter of simple adjustments, dwell timing etc in the software.
