How and why is there a divided flange on this manifold?

Yes, but the piping is 3 in to 2, merged at the flange?

Listen, I wasn't being a smart ***... in all honesty the craftsmenship of these parts is some of the best I've seen, bar none. But it doesn't chang the fact that the runners are not truly divided. And in not being so, your flange and your turbine housing are going to crack. Not to mentioned making the the whole divided housing pointless as well.

Im just trying to understand how someone who fabricates as phenomenally as this person could make the manifold in that way? Im hoping that its just that the pictures aren't showing a very clear divide and it is, but from what im seeing its not.

The flange is divided because it provides a knife edge transition into the exhaust housing. I was not going to modify the turbo itself in the event that Jon ever wanted to sell it or use it another application where it could be used as a true divided setup and still seal properly. In this application it is not divided, correct... however exhaust gas is not smashing into a flat flange face either, but has a smooth transition into the exhaust housing.

That is my point. By having it "knife edged" you are making the heat on the divider even worse. That flange WILL crack and so too may the turbine housing.

Incredible.

Super innovative design as usual. Presumably the turbo flange section has a single wastegate dump pipe. Did you layout this design in CAD also?

woah

Its kind of depressing, knowing that I will probably never EVER be able to make welds like these. At least not in this lifetime.
