20B tranny and rear end setup. Would this work??
Ok I was thinkking of putting a 20B into a first gen, however I have a few concerns/questions.
1) What do I need to do to get a 20B engine to bolt into a fist gen. Do i need motor mounts or do I need an entire new subframe. Dont know If this helps but im starting with first gen with a 12a mounted in there.
2) I have a extra FD tranny laying around and I was thinking of using it what modifications would i need to do to bolt this up to a 20B. eg. Flywheel bellhousing etc.
3) I was thinking of using quasi-posi rear end (diff. axles etc).
And Im assuming I need a custom driveshaft with all this.
By the way this is going to be set up for drag racing.

If you are setting up for drag racing, that tranny will not last you too long. If I had a 1st gen and a 20B, I'd buy the 9" rear that grannies speed shop sells for the 1st gen... they are made for big V8 power and torque, and bolt in.
As far as I know, you will need a flywheel because the 20b comes with a flexplate, and the FD tranny should bolt up to the 20b Rear housing.
You will need a custom driveshaft.

Just to clarify the flywheel issue..
You need an aftermarket flywheel, not a stock one. On stock 5 speed RX-7s, the flywheel has the counterweight "built in" to it. So, putting a stock 5 speed FD flywheel on will make your 3 rotor not balanced.
You need to use the 20B rear counterweight with a non weighted aftermarket flywheel.
