20b in heavier car, or just go v8?
I've got an old Pontiac, pre-war, and I have a 20b.
I thought it would be cool to throw the 20b in, but it weighs 3500 lbs.
I will def have turbos no matter what the engine goes in, so it will have power.
While I know a 20b feels amazing in a small sports car, but for a larger heavier car, should I just go with a traditional v8?
Also, I want it to be an automatic. What trans would you recommend. I want it to have some legs, so no old 3 speeds. Is there anything that can handle 600 - 800 lbs of torque that they make an adapter for?

I'm not sure about that. I've found that I don't like most diesels that I can afford due to the very narrow rpm range.
I know gearing can help, but I like being able to rev it all the way out to 7k RPM and higher on a rotary. Diesels have a very different feel.

for the amount of money it'll take to swap in a 20b into a pontiac with transmission adapter among other crap, I would just FI the v8 for a small fraction of the cost. I also don't think it'll add to the cool factor. it just doesn't make any sense.. pontiac people would give you crap for not putting in a gm motor. rotary people would think the engine is in a wrong chassis. It'll sound great, but I also heard some cam'd v8 at FOT that sounds quite amazing. just IMHO!

That's kind of what I was thinking (the stigma of the traditional hot Rodgers and resulting value of the vehicle once complete)
But... It currently has an ancient straight six from 1938 that makes 80hp, so just as much work is associated with either engine. I will be swapping to an s10 frame as well.
I do not own a v8, and would end up purchasing an LS variant or lq9. I have the 20b in my basement.
I've also thought about a 2jz to keep with the original straight 6 theme haha. I can do that cheaper than the LS swap.
