20b FD exhaust system (and cats)

well... im posting this here cause its 20b RELATED, however not 20b SPECIFIC.

im working on a 20b FD running the stock TT's (w/ pettit subframe etc etc). the plan at the moment is to get it running (stock motor) with a haltech. sorry, none of this has much to do with my question .

anyway, i live in CA and NEED to have a some sort of emission control on the car. getting it licensed will already need to be done "under the table" so im trying to avoid any serious problems if i perhaps get pulled over, etc etc. (im still not sure how i will deal with getting a "test only station" smog request). either way, i need to run a cat, or cats.

i have a metalic cat on my 13b FD which seems to work just fine, and after doing some measurements it seems like i could run two of the metal ones next to each other in parallel. im also aware that the stock 20b cosmos had 2 cats. my question is, if i decide to run two of these 4" metalic cores in parallel, do you guys think ill have any chance at getting BOTH of them hot enough t oactually scrub teh air? or should i be looking into some sort of larger single ceramic HF setup?

thanks again guys, heath

the key is the air pump. it needs to work and inject air into the exhaust ports like the stock setup.

i had a cat on mine (single catco, largest the have) and i had no trouble turning it into a liquid @14.7:1 afrs..... not kidding either, it actually melted and ran into the muffler pipes

It should work fine.
We were going to try that once our 20B starts to make serious power.
Twin 3" in / out metal cats in parallel.
One of the tuner cars (FEED?) in Japan did 700hp with such a set-up (custom welded) and passed the sniffer no problem.
It almost blew all "0.00"'s.

either it needed more cat, more air pump, or the haltech dropped the leading ignition....

ok, now the question is... would it be a poor choice to build the dual cat setup now (BEFORE i start to make extreme power). i.e. would you think i would be able to "light off" both cats running closer to stock power levels, or no? i dont want to go through all this and find that i cant get them hot enough to do anything. however, i dont want to put ONE on and melt it etc. thanks for your responses! -heath

yeah, i mean i had it tuned to 14.5-14.6 on the wideband.

i just happened to notice that DMRH used the same cat on his cosmo, with apparently no problems.

so i dunno....

ok so i think im going ot try the dual cat idea. im going to be using two 'power cats' (unless i can find a source for some metalit cores as they look CONSIDERABLY more substantial, however im not having much luck.

anyway, does anyone have any links to places that sell pre-made 3" y-pipes? i need them as short as possible. thanks
