20b exhaust

i hate ricer sounding cars, i'm sure you all know what i'm talking about, the excessive high pitch fart cans. . .i'd prefer my car to be as quiet as possible. . .having been a rotary owner in the past, i know that silence is almost out of the question

the racing beat exhaust is the quietest i've ever had, but i'm pretty sure it's gonna be too restrictive for my 20B.

anyone out there know of some relatively quiet exhaust that isn't overly restrictive? i know that the two oppose each other, but i figured i'd see what everyone else was up to. thanks again guys

It has to be all custom made.
No one makes a 20B drop-in exhaust system for the FC...or FD for that matter.

right. . .i guess i should have said mufflers rather than exhaust. . .i'm probably going to go with 3.5-4" back to a split to dual 2.5-3". . .

so with that said. . .which mufflers are the quietest without being overly restrictive in everyone's experience. thanks

Look for straight-through but offset - this gives you the best flow with the most sound suppression possible.
The offset perforated pipe allows for the pulses to expand into, but the straight-through tube flows the best.

That's not really true Ted. He could easily buy a standard 3" Fc midpipe section and mufflers for his Fc and only have to fabricate a down pipe or header for a 20b.

I used the APEXi GT Spec exhaust, cut off the 3in portion and had a 3 3/4in portion weld'd on from the firewall back to the exhaust. So my DP is just a small S-pipe from the turbo to the firewall. Not quite sure how loud it will be but if it's to loud I will add a muffler.

I wouldn't run a 3" anything more than 500.
We're shooting for minimum 600.
We're running single 4" into split 3" mufflers.
Yeah, I assumed it's "high" power, but I dunno why anyone would want just 500 out of a 20B.

I'm going to be running a border burn out exhaust on mine. I believe it's 3 1/4". I'll have to go measure it again to be sure. I was planning on putting heat wrap on the down pipe and putting some sort of insulation around the rest back to the canister to cut down on some noise.

I know is an old thread,

Im running the 3inch racing beat exhaust from my 13b single turbo setup, only had to add a 1inch section of pipe into the dp to make it work.

Yes I do realize this is restrictive, but needed to just get the car running. Its still loud as
f*ck!!

Cant imagine what its going to be like when I swith to a 3.5 or 4inch system.

What is everyone else running for exhaust on a 20B FD single turbo?

i'm still fabing mine up, running a 4" downpipe, custom midpipe with a round Magnaflow race series muffler, to a modified Apexi GT Spec (took out 3", similar to 20b 3rd Gen). i should have a video clip next week to hear it.

I'm doing 4" split into 3" duals when i go to turbo this winter. I still want this car to be streetable and part of that requirement for me is not getting a headache when i'm just calmly crusing down the road.

yeah, took the car for a cruise tonight, put on about 300km, it was pretty loud and I went thru 60$ in gas.

Have to lean out my a/f in Im ever goona make it to 7stock without spending a small fortune on fuel.

So far the engine only has aprox. 500km on it, it wants to build boost so easily.

Need another 1000km on it then should be able to really open it up.

By the way, Im posting under a friends account. This is actually black93rx7

Does anyone know of a company that makes a 4inch exhaust for our cars?

Or is it just easier to have one custom made?

It might be cheaper/faster to get one done custom. I imagine a diesel shop might have everything you need.

it doesn't seem like a 4" would be a good option for an NA 20b. NAs lose low end when there isn't enough exhuast velocity (too big).

grorx7 did 3.5 i THINK.

Personally if I ever do a 20b NA I would use 3" to ensure the lowend. People use 3" for <= 400hp turno all the time, no?

Are you talking to me? I'm doing this when i switch over to a turbo. I'm currently running 3" split through a good flowing Y into a stock TII catback. I only lose about 5-10 HP doing this compaired to open header as shown on the dyno.

Now i saw a thread somewhere that had a fd up on a hoist and it had a very very sexy 4" exhaust with a sinlge straight through canister.
The muffler was made at the shop and I wanted to pick one up.

Anyone know where the thread went?
I cannot find it anywhere for the life of me.
