20B Conversions
Hey,
How are we, I am just wondering if any of you have put a 20B in a 86 RX7. I am doing the conversion at the moment. I have just dowelled and ported my engine for use with my t66 turbo. I was wondering if anyone know of any problems I should check out first to save me curling into a ball and crying when it doesnt work. The car should be getting into the 400rwkw+ mark. Any suggestions or any help would be greatly apreciated.
Cheers
Chris

Sounds like a good project.
I know of a few people cruising the Other Engine Conversions section (which Includes a 20B forum) who have done 20B swaps into Series 4 RX7s.
Maybe see what they have to say. Not all of them take the time to look over here.

The 20B fits fairly well in the s4 engine bay but there are a couple of gotcha's:
The bulb on the front of the oil pan interferes with the front swaybar. Either a modified pan or swaybar is needed.
You have to mount the engine very low in order to have clearance for the bonnet to close. You will have to alter the inlet elbow on the throttle body as it sits way too high. Likewise, ditch the 20B water pump and put the s4 one on, or modify the top of the 20B one.
Radiator is very close to the front pulley unless you stand it up vertically.
Expect the stock rear end to give up quickly with the sort of power you are expecting.
